I don't think dlc will be notch adding cats and asking for 10 bucks. I'm guessing he going to keep adding stuff similar to 1.8 and 1.0 (1.9) for free and only charge if he literal doubles the amount of content in the game. I wouldn't mind paying 10 dollars if he added something the size of the aether, mo creatures and better than wolves combined.

I know you are not saying that will be the dlc, but lets say he does add the aether, mo creatures and better than wolves. Why would people pay for the dlc if they already exist in a mod? Even if the dlc is not already a current mod, why wouldn't people just make the mod do what the dlc does? I do not see him making dlc anything game changing, just the minor things like custom capes, maybe custom armors ect (things that will transfer from server to server).

I would. To me that would just be actually finishing the game. It's pretty clear that MC 1.0 non-beta isn't going to really be a finished product with numerous features like NPC not fully implemented.
I just hope it's not some absurd price, like $8.99 for 1 new mob/ a table
That'd immediately push a lot of people to piracy, DLC is mostly stupid in the first place but stuff like that? Lol...what you described is one reason gamers are really pissed off at the moment and why they don't feel paying for games with day1 DLC is right. Give the whole game or a reasonable expansion pack, not nickle and dime'd tf2'esque "hats".
I do not see him making dlc anything game changing, just the minor things like custom capes, maybe custom armors ect (things that will transfer from server to server).
Nope. Uh-uh. No way. Never going to happen. Didn't you read Notch's screed against micro-transactions? He absolutely hates them.
If it ever did happen (and I'm not saying I believe it ever will) It'd probably be some aesthetic feature for players. EG: the hats from TF2. So if it ever did happen it'd probably be something like a cape (customizable or not). This would not affect other players, not need much altering in code (any at all tbh) and would be something people would probably pay for to do it (note: Personally I wouldn't want a cape, I like making my own skins and capes hide a large portion of the back)
First Time poster long time reader. If you read the terms of use it says "When you purchase Minecraft you do so as is, be it in the early stages of development or already fully released. Subsequent updates are only an added bonus and not a guarantee, as icing on a cake. Purchases during the development of the game are discounted and include the full game upon release." I think that means DLC content for all but I am not sure.

Firstly, I didn't say adding those mods. I said adding the amount those mods have. I used them as a reference of size, that is all.
Secondly, people would get it for the same reason people update for free. To be part of the community, it's easier than installing a mod, it's out before the mod, it's probably going to be used on servers, you want to support Mojang. It's a good deal. Paying $10 to double the size of a game that I paid more than $10 to get in the first place. Of course, this is all hypothetical.
Not going to add anything game changing? Like potions? enchantments? I don't see any evidence that the game development before and after release is going to change in any way at all. I actualy, critizie Notch for making the "release" a big deal. He should have just picked a random day and said, "I've realized that the game was never in beta and will never be released, I shouldn't have used tradiotional developing terms for this game, just enjoy and I will keep updating like usual." He obviously hasn't gone down this path. I wish he would. I think too many people are comparing xbox dlc to mojang dlc, which we haven't seen. I think it could likely add to doubling of content. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

MC will never be finished. It's not a game that is capable of being finished since it has no finish line. What happens when he add (totally pulling our of my rear) coral reefs and fish and such. People will be like, "WOW TOOK AN EXTRA 3 MONTHS TO FINISH GAME!" Then he adds different types of mountains and volcanos, "WOW TOOK AN EXTRA 2 MONTHS TO FINISH GAME!" Then Jeb (got to give him credit) adds writeable books, notes bigger signs, "WOW TOOK AN EXTRA % MONTHS TO FINISH GAME!"
See a pattern? NPC not being finished at "release" is just proof that "release" is only being used so Minecraft can get magazine reviews, nothing more. It's not a release; it's another normal patch with a price hike, which I'm ok with.
if you think about it we paid about 14usd for the game (beta) and we have all put hundreds of hours into building our single player worlds and most of us are on 1 multiplayersever or another this game has already more then paid for itself in my eyes, so if i ever did get so bored with minecraft and wanted to stop playing indefinatly then mojang releases a large content dlc for $10 using the example ather, mo creater + better worlf size would add another 100h minimum thats a better buy then most games at 50$ a game im lucky to get 50 hours my first playthrough.

I stated at the beginning of my post that I knew you were not saying that, I was simply using them as an example.
I'm not suggesting he will not add anything game changing, I'm saying that I doubt he will add anything game changing into a paid DLC. I feel that if he does add paid DLC it will be things that allow people to have access to them on every server and not limit whether the server has the DLC or not.
Notch will likely have updates with new enchants, potions and the like, but making them paid DLC would make it very difficult for the community to stay intact. If he makes it so players must choose whether or not to buy the DLC to continue to play on a server, the player may be turned off to the whole idea of DLC. Now, if he makes it so a player can have a cloak, change how their items appear or minor cosmetic things, it would not split the server in half because the DLC would be based on the player and not the server.

1. I was just clarifying. glad you got my point.
2 and 3. I guess I'm just thinking of paid dlc differently than you. Since the entire game is dlc, I just thought of apid dlc after "release" would be like an expansion pack. I don't think most people see brood war as dividing the starcraft community. To clarify again :smile.gif:, I wasn't saying adding new poition or enchantments. I was saying adding game changing content like the potion and enchantment systems. Like perhaps, lures for fishing or gears.

Any game can be finished. That doesn't mean you can't have additions later. Minecraft isn't some special flower for which the normal rules about games don't apply.

One new system does not an expansion pack make. An expansion pack typically has as much content as an entire game or close to it. The problem with DLC having individual features is that it is almost always horribly overpriced so you'd end up paying 50 bucks for content that should cost 20 altogether. To say nothing of how this content typically lacks the cohesive nature of a true expansion pack.

I'll have to refer you to the orginal post I made stating the size of the dlc I was expecting, which would clearly be much much more than a new system. Let not forget about earlier post that give context to more recent ones.

I disagree. Minecraft is indeed a special flower, although not alone, Terraria and The Realm of the Mad God come to mind emidiately. If a game has no specified finished line then how can you say it can be complete. Surely, as you stated, any game can be finished, but that doesn't mean every game must. It's not whether it can or can not, its whether it will or will not. Notch could easily say he wont update it after the "release." That would make the game complete, although terribly executed. However, since Notch and Jeb have stated that they will update after release and they have not given us any idea what a finished game would look like or whether they ever plan to finish it, it follows that this may be one of those game that will not be finished.
DLC can be big or small, someting like capes or a new mob. But how much is it going to cost? No one except Mojang employees would know, unless they told the public. What if Notch made it so Alpha buyers had to pay for DLC? Notch would have broken his promise. I think that people who bought the Alpha would be very mad. (Because I would (I bought the Alpha)) Ask yourself, do you need DLC? All of the updates are DLC, so in a way you're getting DLC for free.

I guess implementing a DLC system described in this and the last few posts would create an enormous shitstorm. Remember what happened if Notch decided to release the modding API and source files for creating mods only for paying modders? This reaction would be nothing compared to the shitstorm such a stupid DLC system that CoD has would cause.
The funny part was that the fee was nominal. Proof that the internet can't be trusted.
