Right now, bows can't be enchanted, and strength potions do not work with them. I think it might be a good idea. Some examples in addition to the sword enchantments:
Piercing - Cuts through more than one enemy.
Plentiful - Has a chance of not using an arrow when shot
Venom - Poisons target (lasts about as long as a cave spider's poison)
Flight - Arrows fall much slower, thus traveling farther
Haste - Shorter arrow charge time

Hell, yes. This would mean that bows would be depleted, but with the abundance of string I don't see a problem with that
That gives me an idea for a new enchantment, but not for the bow. Instead, how about a Seeing enchantment for the helmet? This will allow you to see through that void fog like it wasn't even there, or at the very least, cut it down to about what you would see at around level 30.
While I love the fact that bows don't have durability, in all honest giving them durability would make a lot of sense; bows in real life aren't invincible and will wear over time.
Maybe another idea would be to make ARROWS enchant-able, where you can put a stack of them onto the table and the whole stack will become enchanted.

This I also like. The problem would be selecting which arrows to shoot if you are carrying multiples. Just thought of Ocarina while typing, they should have something like that
I agree enchanting bows would be good.
I also agree they should have durability added. With cobwebs added to the game string is much easier to acquire.

No, bows are overpowered as is. An acceptable buff would be arrows have a chance of being returned after killing a mob.
When notch originally mentioned being able to shoot further with the bow, I imagined it would stay like it was before and overcharging it would increase speed and damage while damaging the bow the longer you held it. If you held the button too long it would break the bow. It would add a "how far can I push it?" element to the bow.

I’d rather be in, in a good system. That’s where my discontent comes from:
being forced to choose to stay outside.

helmet??? how about night vision goggles??? :biggrin.gif:
Yes, I was very disappointed when I finally found some diamonds on my current map, built my enchantment table, and the very first item i plopped in there was my trusty bow.... nothing... I was sad, very sad.
I use the bow a lot, I have become a very good sniper. I think it needs some bonuses like other things get, But, I do understand why it doesn't. it does not degrade like the other things that are enchantable.
One suggestion for notch here.. I am not a developer, so I have no idea how hard this would be to do, but:
You could add a bar for the enchantment, like a regular bar under every other degrading item, only this one would be for the enchantment effect., when it expires, the bow/sword/whatever goes back to normal. this could also open up a few new enchantments like "Sturdy Pickaxe" and give it longer durability (stops degrading till' the enchantment bar is gone)
Didn't mean for this to turn into a suggestion topic, sorry about that.

Also flaming arrows
He's right, so bows should not be able to be enchanted

for binoculars or something :tongue.gif:
would be neat
This. Bows on their own don't do anything. It's the arrows that do the damage. Throw in a stack, and it's like pseudo-durability.
It gets a result.

Edit: Typo
I'm gonna be straight with you, this idea has lots of arrows.
Do you like arrows? I do.
OOOHHHH MAAAAN, WE'VE GOT:
Slowing Arrows
Faster/Sniper Arrows (Swiftness Potion)
Fire Arrows
Knockback Arrows (Strength Potion)
Piercing Arrows (Strength Potion)
Exploding Arrows
Poison Arrows
Even Healing Arrows, if you like that sort of thing.
I do.
