Before you reply and say "I'm tired of this crap! I hate seeing all these complaints!" please take the time to even read the first paragraph.
I'm not going to go all dramatic, I just want to express my feelings. I'm sorry for this, but I just need to get this out. I miss Minecraft. Back when there weren't potions and enchantments and alchemy. When there were mods and plugins for all these things. Back when the goal was to collect wood and survive for the first night, then make a bed and expand tomorrow. I miss the days I used to play when I would endlessly explore and find large mountains fascinating.
I don't want it to turn into World of Minecraft (WoM). I saw the yellow text on the main menu say "Woo! World of Minecraft!" That's when it just hit me, "This game is really turning into an RPG and not the adventure survival game I bought it for." Potions? Enchanting? Cauldrons? Teleportation? Where has making a cobblestone house is satisfying gone?
When I first heard of the Adventure Update, I was like "Wow this is the best thing to happen to Minecraft!" But now... it's the complete opposite. Atleast in my opinion.
So I guess I'll just stick to the older versions and downgrading whatever version I want to play. Thank you for reading this, and vote above. I just wanted to see who feels the same and who doesn't. Otherwise, Notch, you and Mojang have made a great game overall. I just prefer the older versions myself.
Ok, I read your entire post, and my reaction is still, "I'm tired of this crap! I hate seeing all these complaints!"
The game isn't becoming "World of Minecraft," it's becoming Minecraft. What you miss is an unfinished foundation of a game, not the complete game. If you pre-purchased (not bought, PRE-PURCHASED) the game under the assumption that it would not evolve and change during the development process, then you were kidding yourself. If I were you, I'd do myself a favor and ask the mods to delete this topic, now, because you have nothing new to say that hasn't been said in a dozen other topics.
The poll is also kind of pointless. Just like all the others, you're going to find maybe 10-15% of the people who look at your topic will agree with you while the rest won't.
Moron, YOU NEED TO DO ALL THOSE THING BEFORE THE POTIONS! JEB IS EXPERIMENTING!
Don't like it? backdate your mine craft to 1.8.1, you ignorant BOOB!
Like I said this was my opinion, not like I am demanding the old Minecraft. I already downgraded all the way back to 1.3_01. Take the time to see my point of view before you make a reply like this. How long have you been playing Minecraft?
Um... I have yet to see an orc or blood elf, so I am sure it is safe to say. It is no where close. As well you are saying that you think the idea of mining faster, breathing under water, etc. I think minecraft is moving in a great direction. Heck whenever I start I always usually have a cobblestone house, leave it and upgrade from that.
Those who get aggravated at negative opinions need to check themselves before they wreck themselves. Just cause Minecraft is popular doesn't mean the current form has a 100% approval rating by all.
I'm loving all the changes they're making; I can still detect the game it used to be under the surface, and in my eyes, it's still there. I can feel it. I think the changes they're making are builing upon the adventure/survival game, adding RPG elements, but not turning the game itself into an RPG. When/if they add quests and all that maybe I'll change my tune, but IMO I knew this was the direction they were going when I got into Minecraft. In fact the promise, and possibility, of the game becoming what it is now was one of the major draws for me. Just had to stick along for the ride.

First off thank you for seeing what apparently these others haven't.
Second, I respect your opinion, especially about the Quest part. Hopefully these NPC's won't have anything to do with that.
I can say with confidence that the game I have grown to love and cherish is still there. I was able to play just like I alwasy had. Build a shelter, go spelunking, collect iron and diamonds, fight of fsome mobs, renoovate my house... all of the stuff we could do before is still there. It all stll works, its all still fun. There are just more options for where you can go with it. If you want to build a portal to the nether, and try to gather resources for potions, you can. If you want to go and explore a stronghold, you can. Not "you must". You can.
The new featues are also done in a very mine-crafty way. Gathering resources, turning them into other things for your benefit, thats classic minecraft. How many people have gone out to hunt slimes so they can make sticky pistons? How many people go out to kill creepers at night to get TNT? You can now add "Go to the nether and hunt ghasts for potions" to this list. You need netherwart? Its another plant you farm, like mushrooms or wheat.

Alpha was MineCraft's "Simple" peak. Beta brought along great changes, but now I fear those changes have gone to far.
Now, with Beta, the game is taking an unusual turn. MineCraft is turning less into an adventure/survival game and more into the RPG I never would have bought.

I was the second person to use the avatar I have. The rest took it from me. The first I asked, he said yes.
I know what I'm doing. I plan ahead, or get tired and screw up everything.
the game has always been an RPG, because your role is too survive. nothing has changed that, and the whole point of RPG elements is to make the adventure aspect of the and i quote "adventure/survival" more interesting and fun.
without it the game would start to get boreing for the majority of people

This is almost exactly how I feel. I like the new changes in a way I sometimes would much prefer playing without them. I like the new changes, but they're just not my preference.

I read the first paragraph. You miss Minecraft? Word your sentences properly. You miss the OLD Minecraft. Notch and Jeb like roguelike RPGs and that's their goal for Minecraft. Don't like it? Mod it.
You may not be complaining or demanding, you may just be getting it out in the open. But the point is you're not alone. And because you're not alone there are tons of people posting the same thing. Instead of making a new thread post on an existing one so the entire forum isn't cluttered with this.
I understand how you feel, and I partly agree. Although I am on the level of; "If you don't like it don't use it." If you find potion ingredients, through them in a fire? If you don't use the new features, it is like they are simply not there. Also, I'm positive mods exist that can turn some of the stuff off (ala hunger if that's what you hate), even though I realize it is a major inconvenience.

You don't HAVE to use anything they make, turn on village and dungeon generation, don't kill enderman, throw what you don't like in lava.
Simple.
Stop complaining and man up, otherwise leave the game.

Can you turn off potions? Answer?
Stop complaining? Just expressing my opinion, I'm not demanding for the exile of these updates.
Man up? What part of missing the older versions of the game is childish?
First off thank you for seeing what apparently these others haven't.

Just... don't use potions?

[rant]
DON'T USE IT? THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO POTIONS. WHAT IF I NEED INSTANT HP? THEN I MUST USE POTIONS!
[/rant]
I dislike the hunger bar becasue food is no longer enough, now I NEED to make potions if I want instant HP.
