There are a few things I would love to see in oceans...
1-Sponges. We all want it, and it's in the game already.
2-Sunken ships. You can find gold in the chests 8D
3-Hostile mobs, like sharks.

I think what we really want is different loot in all of the dungeons. >_> Apples and coal just don't cut it, man.
Unless they buy the game, start a map, spawn on an island, starve to death from lack of resources, and quit the game forever, it doesn't really matter.
Sadly, that's what I'm worried about. With so many people wanting to get instant pleasure out of video games these days, there won't be much sympathy for a blocky 2-D world that doesn't seem to give them the time of day on the world they generated.

At this point, if they are buying minecraft, it is because they have heard about it. If they have heard about it to the point of buying it, they probably have enough knowledge to realize you don't always spawn on an island, and having spent money on it are subsequently likely to persivere with it a bit.
I could just as easily say someone could spawn in a forest, not realize you have to hold down the button to harvest wood(it happens), and give up because they can't do anything. The game is not exactly freindly to beginners to start with.
I think there are a lot of fun ideas, but they don't need to be released now. I'd love to have big boats, my server would enjoy ocean adventures where you aren't essentially standing in a bucket. Honestly I'd love items to be made for SMP, like a boat with a passenger area(think in other games like first person shooters, someone drives, and someone shoots). It would be useful in a situation with new violent water mobs, or more additions to fishing or harvesting new ocean materials.
But honestly most of the things I want are just for FUN. Right now there is no real purpose to the ocean, they are more of an obstacle. But water is often an obstacle(psychonauts! Infamous!) and so I don't think that's a problem from a gaming standpoint.
But when the game is fully released and notch releases "themed" updates, I would love an ocean one! :smile.gif:
Things I would like to see:
-Sunken ships w/ treasure
-New type/s of boats
-Sharks, Rays, Jellyfish (to give people a reason to use boats instead of swimming out in the open water)
-New, water exclusive blocks
-Water that you can actually BUILD in
for if he adds these!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I Like To Wear Shorts! They’re comfy and easy to wear!
I think if they're going to happen, I'd rather see them before or in the full release of the game than after.
At some point I'd like to make a server map that has all the features it should without having to start a whole new world to get them, and I think biome and map features should be paramount in what they put into the finished product before additional content.
Mobs? Sure but I'm not particularly interested in this.
New blocks? emm... i guess. Variety is nice after all.
New mechanics? YES PLEASE.
All I really want is realistic water and some tools that make underwater building a bit easier. oh... wait... finite liquids has this...
I think I found a temporary fix... Mods!!!
All that aside, I agree that oceans could use some work. But still... all I really want is more realistic water behavior and some tools/blocks/whatever that make underwater base building fun and unique, rather than frustrating. But that's just me. And everything I want is satisfied by the finite liquids mod :wink.gif: oh... FL has sponges. Waiting on the latest build to be released though :sad.gif:

No, I think you're just unlucky with chests.
sorrycaps.

Maybe a summer pirate update :laugh.gif:
Treasure Maps
X marks the spots on islands
Pirate skeletons moving around in the ocean in little boats.
Zombie pirates with swords on special "treasure" strongholds found on islands.
Shipwrecks
Oh that would be such an awesome theme. You sure do get that adventurous feeling when the theme is pirates.

If we have boss mobs by then...Then a kraken boss mob too!! :biggrin.gif:

^^^ And this
What an awesome idea! Probably more complicated than strongholds or nether fortresses, but still - awesome!
Actually going to add that to my more stuff in oceans ideas.

That is all.
I personally have my main SSP world on a deserted island.
As such, they should be limited in size lest they present a "wall of nothing" to the player to contend with.
