Oh sorry bro! I don't do texture pack stuff much so my bad. :mellow.gif:
Its cool. I don't do texture packs either, but I do know java(as much as a 5 on an AP Computer Science test will teach you at least). I can see how you could have gotten that mixed up.

*shrug*
If anything, we should want native support for color changing, and smooth borders for the default in the 1.9 Release.
We don't really need much more than this, do we?
It seems like a lot of people in this thread don't understand what exactly is going on with the swamp biome. Let me explain.
The default grass and foliage gradients for Minecraft use very vibrant, bright shades of green. So, to make swamps look darker and more faded, a PURPLE color overlay has been coded in to the game to alter the entire zone. With the default color gradient, it still appears green, just a more swampy and appropriate green. In my opinion, the default texture coloring looks fine.
Most texture packs do not use the default gradient. I have the most experience working with the DokuCraft texture pack, so I'm going to reference that. Many many other texture packs have this same issue, however. The DokuCraft pack uses slightly darker and less saturated shades of green for their gradient. Because of this, the purple wash is MUCH more prominent. Swamps become purple.
Swamps are not supposed to be purple. This is the problem. It's not a matter of whether or not swamps are ugly in real life. Of course they are. I don't really think this is what the OP meant. The issue is that unless we want trees and grass in custom texture packs to be neon green in the rest of the world, like the default textures, swamps will end up purple.
I found a tree half-in and half-out of a swamp. This should effectively demonstrate how the purple color overlay works. Using custom gradients, we start with a green tree and we end up with a purple tree:
I really hope it isn't hard-coded next update. Whether or not you like the look of swamps, I'd hope you can understand my want to change the appearance. I think the foliage should reference the foliagecolor.png or even there should be a new png that provides the overlay color. As far as the water goes, I'd think that would have been better done with a new block like the lilypad, some sort of muck with semi-transparency enabled so that not only could the texture be easily changed, but also it's actually a muck that lays over the water like many swamps have irl. If the new png deals with water colors is enabled to be used instead, some really stunning effects could be achieved by texture makers.
So you wake up on a beach one day, and remember NOTHING. (Except your degree teachings in Engineering, Wilderness Survival, Metal work, Physics, Tech, Psychology, History, Dynamics, and Blocks.) You mine and build and survive for years and years.
Personally, I think the dark water looks like an oil spill. I keep looking around for chickens that need to be saved and have the oil cleaned from them :wink.gif:
I absolutely agree with the OP. This whole issue has illustrated, once again, just how incompetent Mojang is with game design. What was the point of introducing color defining pngs for biomes if the biomes you implement don't use them? Not only is it a major pain in the ass for texture pack designers who are now rendered incapable of developing texture packs with balanced colors that work in harmony with one another, but the default colors for pine trees and swamps hard wire the game to look like ****. We can't undo Mojang's bad design. It's unbelievably irritating.

This is what needs to be fixed.
and swamps fore the haters
What the **** is the use of a biome color gradient if you don't use it to color your biomes?
Half-Ass-Notch strikes again.
I agree but it's hard to find an area in a swamp (next to water) where you don't get the sudden biome border.
Good job checking the post dates there, chief.
That thread is 1 day old. This one has been here since September.
Omg... how many of these outdated posts are there??? And how come there still here?
