Hello guys! I've been playing Minecraft since Alpha, and I appreciate your devotion to still update something I paid for such a small price for free. I enjoy the new generation, the new strongholds, the mineshafts, the ravines, sprinting, the new mobs.
But one thing just bothers me, you seem to have a lot of ideas, but you never come around finishing them, most of the additions feel empty and don't bring more depth to Minecraft. The only thing that's been able to renew my interest in Survival in the last months was mods. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming Mojang of being lazy or just throwing random content at us, but I just feel it takes forever for that content to actually do something.
We currently have an EXP bar that does nothing in the vanilla game. We have mineshafts, strongholds, and ravines, with nothing really new in there except for cave spiders which are simply more dangerous spiders, all these areas feel empty. Now we have nether ruins, but again, they contain nothing that really makes the game more interesting or makes the player actually looking for them; all you get is more of the same; more of the same boring iron bars in dungeon chests, and more of the same mobs that drop nothing of interest.
These new features don't really retain my interest, and as an example, we have a lotofitemsorfeatures that do nothing much that were added recently, or that don't really add depth and interest to the game.
It would be fun to have some sort of more finished features. Remember slimeballs? They took forever to have a use. It would be nice if the villagers could trade, or if the strongholds actually did something special like having bosses, or that some of the areas could have stuff that makes them interesting to explore.
Just my thoughts, I'm playing the Adventure Update, and I'm still building a small house and getting bored. There's a problem.
I set my bar very high for the Adventure Update and it didn't really live up to my expectations, on top of having a lot of content that could be improved upon in later updates.
The problem I see here is that they're trying to add too much stuff, without actually finishing it.

There it is!
Sadly I don't think Mojang reads these forums, but I agree with this idea. I still cling to some hope that they're going to bring everything together and add a purpose to the game before the final release, but my resolve continues to waver a little bit with each update.

Agreed. I would rather Mojang "finish" (to the extent that a portion of a Beta can be finished) a particular aspect, than to implement a variety of ideas that are currently lackluster, at best.

'Tis not contrary to reason to prefer the destruction of the whole world to the scratching of my finger.
I am just trying to convey a message, I understand that there is a lot of whining going on, but I'm trying to give constructive criticism. I'm not trying to attack Mojang; in fact I quite like them. No need to be rude.
Notch said himself that he cares about what the community thinks and wants to give everyone what they want, so I like to think he would listen, but I don't think there's enough room between now and the release date for them to change what they already have in motion.
He may have wrote that, but tbh without attemptig to ignite a flamewar here.. what Ive seen of notch in interviews and whatnot draws the picture of a notoriously arrogant persona. Reminds me if some of my aquaintances in many ways and it may be that I just draw conclusions based on his apparent similarities with those.. but his blunt responses like "no, thats a silly concept" when asked if he wil ever fix double doors f.x, and other incidents like it.. yea it just draws the picture for me. I may be wrong.
Poor jeb has to work not only with but under the guy, I dont think I could do that even if I were smart enough too.
Yeah, I agree with that to an extent. I respect what he has done so far, but he's big-time now and that almost always comes with some unavoidable stigmata. I wish I could do something more decisive about it, but for now I have to find satisfaction in prattling on about it in the forums. :biggrin.gif:

That's wholly irrelevant to the issue at hand. Let's say, for argument's sake, that Notch is an arrogant ****. That has no bearing on the developing process, and shouldn't be an issue for any of the community. As long as he's doing his job, I don't care how many money baths he takes.

While I do find all the new stuff fun at first, But knowing me if I play it a lot, I'm going to get bored. I am waiting for them to add the boss monsters. I'm hoping those guys will be actually challenging enemies. Because honestly minecraft became easy. And either Notch needs to make harder enemies or he needs to add a goal or a way to win. While the harder enemies would only be a temporary solution, the way to win would be a permanent solution. I still find spelunking fun though, especially when I get big caves, but doing it all the time can make it boring.
I set my bar very high for the Adventure Update and it didn't really live up to my expectations, on top of having a lot of content that could be improved upon in later updates.
You got what they were able to produce and yet you still complain about it. Here's an idea, if you want all these fancy features that you want, why don't you offer to do a bit of coding for them or something? Otherwise deal with the fact that you're not always going to get what you want when it comes to a game that you're playing rather than developing.

Turning "Limit Framerate: OFF" to "ON"will often solve many problems on SMP servers that would otherwise be considered lag. Remember this.
Dear OP Thank you for handling this like an adult and not posting "Mojang y u no giv me wht u told me u wuld" Like the rest of the people have. But technically no we're only playing a part of the Adventure Update, And it Did succeed at making me more adventurous, but that's just me.

Its not flaming when its true, I should be able to speak my mind on my own thread, warn status 10%? Thats just a badge of honor.
1. The game is still in Beta. So atm "no problem"
2. When it release and it might be still not finished, than I will start to say things like Sefam do.
The problem is Notch think this is HIS game. Yes It is! BUT, this is also the reason why he do not want to add to much things, the community ask him for. He want to invent it by himselfe. He just told that in a video.
At least I might be happy when he start fixing more bugs. Because after every new update, there are twice as much new bugs. :sad.gif: Sadly
PS: atm I just want to test a 256 block SMP. Maybe this is some new fun ^^
Completely agreed. They need to finish what they started instead of jumping into new projects. 1 indepth update is better than 10 half assed ones. Unfortunately there is no real link between the forums and Mojang.
They seriously need to hire more people. Talented modders like the Aether guys. Four people working is not enough.
I'd like to thank you for making a constructive thread, threads like these are very rare.
But I do have to say what is needed, although it is repeated over an over "It is only Beta, and this is just a Pre-Release," this isn't an excuse this is just an undeniable fact that we have paid for a game that isn't finished -- a work in progress. You and all of us have to wait . . .
It doesn't matter if our threads are nice (like yours) or hasty judgments without a complete thought (like most) are made, we are all set to Notch and Mojang's pace.
On to the positive notes, as it is just a pre-release currently 1.9 might still be a long way coming and we might soon see these elements fleshed out more.
Just do like most of the actual good people here do, "Enjoy what you are given, and have hope for the future."

Hey man, first - thanks for a constructive thread rather than another whining thread.
Second, I understand your frustration, but as someone who understands how Software Testing works I can tell you that it's unrealistic and not at all constructive for new features to be "finished" and added into a piece of software (games included) during what is ultimately still a testing phase for notch. Take the incomplete XP bar - better for them to implement the bar and basic mechanics of the bar now, even without a use for skill points, so that they can troubleshoot and test any problems that may come of that (I.E. the XP lag problem that has been seen).
Generally, that is how software testing is done. You add part of a feature, test it to makes sure it works fine, then add the next part (or 3) and test that. Usually that is done behind closed doors, but here we are the beta testers and the pre release testers, so they test everything on us. That's why you're not required to update.
So, while it's frustrating and annoying to have incomplete features, I can tell you from experience that it's better this way than any other way. Mojang is too small right now to do all their testing and then give us a game with all the complete features that they've talked about (12-13 people is not big enough for all the testing required in the short amount of time).
Doesnt their game release in 2 months or less? i hope all their ideas finish pretty soon, or its just going to release only in name. Many games like this are never finished, but its going to take a absurdly long period of time (at the rate their going) after release to get it to a point where like the OP said, has more depth.
Quite a few decent posts here, majority of the items ingame really are half-finished ideas, or largely useless (could have more uses). Idea creating isn't my bag, but the game really does have alot of potential to be so much more.
Much stronger mod support might fix all the problems tbh, let the fans update the game lol.
I want to address the "It's still in beta" point in this post.
While it is true that the game is still in beta, which means it is incomplete, and can have bugs, the thing that I'm criticizing here isn't the fact that we're in beta, but rather the way Mojang is developping the beta; rather than focusing on one feature, making it bring something to the game(And maybe even coming back to polish it later), and moving to the next feature, they release many shallow features, to only explore/polish/complete them later. These are both valid ways to develop software, and as someone said above, the latter is better to test since Mojang really isn't that big. However, it doesn't mean that features need to be shallow, it doesn't mean that they have to be entirely finished either. I think the problem currently is that the stuff is TOO shallow; adding items that do nothing is by definition entirely useless.
But one thing just bothers me, you seem to have a lot of ideas, but you never come around finishing them, most of the additions feel empty and don't bring more depth to Minecraft. The only thing that's been able to renew my interest in Survival in the last months was mods.
