Notch, have you become lazy? There was literally zero programing to do here since every creative feature you can possibly want was already made probably 10 times by modders. The only use for your creative was found by some of my friends who just flew around looking for Endermen...
So because modders can do it means that Notch should just copy them? Welp there's no point in bothering to update this game ever again, after all modders have just already coded everything.
That is stupid as **** logic. Do your self a favor and use your brain for a second before you post anything in the future rather than let your brain atrophy in your skull.
For all you people who did write about the subject,
So because modders can do it means that Notch should just copy them? Welp there's no point in bothering to update this game ever again, after all modders have just already coded everything.
Hmmm... Yes? Notch should copy them. If you read Notch has the right to take any mod made for MC and put it in the game, like he did with pistons. I, at least, do not want to pay for a game I have to complete myself. Having mod tools isnt meant to be there to complete the game, its meant to let people make new things in an already complete game, for example TF2, with surf maps, Dodgeball and so on.
stop picking on OP, everyone. we all have our propensities to complain and have everything just PERFECT without having to move a few files into the minecraft directory. who the hell would want to click a few times?
So, what you say is, in order for a game to be good it has to rely on players' good will to remake all the mods for every update instead of just adding it into the game? Sounds like a plan for a great game
So true. I mean, all Notch had to do was install flymod and TMI (perhaps a flat land option) then your done. But no, he had to make a clunky flying system and poorly implemented item menu.
I would agree with the OP, although not such a stance on Notch. I mean, not to rag on Notch or anything, as its good to see Creative mode back, but as it's pointed out it's essentially just old Creative with a GUI update to be like TooManyItems and realistically not that good of a fly mode. And I know it's there decision to make how they want, so leave that argument out of any replying posts. Sure, it's nice. But as soon as it was updated I had my Single Player Commands installed with WorldEdit and TooManyItems. I mean, honestly it's true. They could have just copy-pasted a large portion of SPC/WorldEdit/TMI and made them play nice with each other (fix the "give [xxxx]" error in SPC when TMI is installed) and had a truly powerful creative system that would be developer supported, rather than the community still supporting the majority of really useful and well-made creative tools.
The OP is a complete idiot. You don't pay for the updates so you can't whine about them.
He's not going to forget his own ideas because someone thought about it and made it first. That's ridiculous.
It's his game and he's going to add whatever features he likes.
He can also get in trouble if he liberally takes what he can from mods so that's also a reason why he hasn't done it.
Adding finished mod content already available makes him more "lazy" than if he creates the feature himself. Yet you children keep whining that he's lazy no matter what. God damn it all. This is why he doesn't read these forums.
You paid for updates when you paid for the game... did you forget the stipulation that, depending on when you registered, you were also entitled to all future updates?
I'm not really harping on him per se, it's just it a could have/would have situation. It *could have* been so much better, as those of us that have played and used mods for a long time can attest to, if he *would have* implemented some changes that we see on other, already released items. And it has already been pointed out that Mojang essentially owns intellectual property rights on any mod that comes out per their policy, so it's not like he could have really gotten in trouble for nabbing SPC and tearing some code out of there.
Again, I understand it is his/Mojang's vision for what the game can and will be. Take it as constructive criticism. For someone that has been using these various mods SPC/TMI/WorldEdit since they came out, I was really excited to see Creative make a proper return, with hopefully the new upgraded powers that MineCraft has been proven capable of for such a long time. But instead it's basically a downgrade to MineCraft Classic with a fly mod and TMI. I know TMI doesn't give you unlimited items, insta-mine etc... but it's basically what it is. I know I still have SPC and I still use those now that I've seen where Creative has gone with this update. I was just looking forward to having a proper, developer-supported portion of the game dedicated to those that really want to build ridiculous structures, rather than having every proper tool (well, if you really want to be efficient with your work space that is) still built by the community, that is all.
Again, just my thoughts and some constructive criticism. I really do like the fact that Creative is back, I just wish it really gave you the tools to make the world what you want it to be, at least in a semi-timely manner.
Notch specifically avoids mods so he can come up with his own ideas untainted by what is already out there. As someone who hs not tried TMI or any fly mods, what we got seems perfectly fine to me. You have an inventory with every item, arranged in a sensible manner. You get to place and unlimited amount of bricks. You can select existing blocks to place. You can instntly mine blocks, making both destructions and construction at your fingertips. I don't know what else you would want in that department. Granted, there are some things that still need tweaking, like the behavior of buckets, but those are a few special cases.
And I found the flying to be very useable. I could fly through caves without issue, traverse biomes, and navigate my constructions without any problems. I don't see the issue.
What precisely did you expect to be different? Peopel keeep saying "oh, the mods did it better", but I am still unclear on what precisely they did that was so superior.

InvEdit groups items into categories instead of spamming them into one unorganized list. They should remove the tools from the building blocks and put things into separate tabs. If they do this then I will claim that it is better than TMI.
"useless flying hack and TooManyItems with a new GUI."
So basically you don't know the meaning of hacking? How about you do some research my young boy, http://tinyurl.com/3eeezws.
TMI was a great mod, is a great mod. Creative mode is called creative for a reason, for people who cannot install mods.

"Oh i want to build a car out of coloured wool!" (me) "Ohh... but I CAN! Because of a new mode called Creative Mode! I am now happy!"
Can you please go back to year 7, research your arguments before releasing to the notch-supportive public and just.. gtfo.
Coding in java is difficult due to problems arising with a missing character etc. and if you say that 'Zero coding is needed' then obvously you DO NOT know about programming at all..
So, with all due respect, and there is none, please, oh pretty please for the love of jesus, get better arguments that are hard to respond to.
Cheerios child!
I second these points. The OP is supremely ignorant of everything code related.
Just because some modders created mods that perform the same/similar functions as are available in Creative mode does not mean that they can just be spliced from the mod into the Minecraft game code. Chances are Notch has changed quite few things throughout the code which would now conflict with those mods as they were. This means recoding them to make them work. Notch did that.
What are you even complaining about? What'd you think Creative mode was going to be about? Did you even know how minecraft was in its browser-only form in its infancy? At least now you've got a continuously-generating map to mess with. Back then you were stuck in a comparatively small box with half the blocks that are available to you now.
Grow up and stop vomiting your ignorance everywhere. It makes you look like an idiot.
What precisely did you expect to be different? Peopel keeep saying "oh, the mods did it better", but I am still unclear on what precisely they did that was so superior.
The only thing I miss in Creative is WorldEdit. WorldEdit is a great mod which allows you to quickly fill out regions, or create primitives like cubes, cylinders, and the like. The region feature by far is the most useful though, as you can just click two points and use /bind to allow you to instantly fill out that wall with a single keypress. Define some smaller regions within this wall, and press a different key, and the wall has a nice log border to it. Another selection and keypress gives your new home a nice cobblestone floor, and roofs can be created with ease using the same trick.
But does WorldEdit (coupled with SPC, of course) serve as a valid replacement for Creative? Not at all. It's merely an aid for building large structures. Without creative, you either have to install TMI or just abuse /give to get your items, though I guess if either mod implements a "infinite inventory" mode this isn't a problem. Coupled with Notch's creative though, SPC/WorldEdit make a very powerful team and allow for the creation of things quickly.
Flying is surprisingly fluid, even when compared to sprint. I've always found SPC's fly physics to be a bit better (you glide much less), but the default fly is definitely workable.
So true. I mean, all Notch had to do was install flymod and TMI (perhaps a flat land option) then your done. But no, he had to make a clunky flying system and poorly implemented item menu.
Dont forget that its infinite block. He did not take any codes for flying etc (im not to sure though)... On servers where you have creative notchs antifly dosent do anything (since your in creative)
But if your useing another flymod and are in survival it will react. Yes i have tested it.
InvEdit groups items into categories instead of spamming them into one unorganized list. They should remove the tools from the building blocks and put things into separate tabs. If they do this then I will claim that it is better than TMI.
It is sorted, even if its not in discrete tabs. I can find an item I want, without prior knowledge of where it is, in a couple of seconds. There is definately a logic and pattern to it. It may be different from TMI, and hence if you are used to it you could be confused because it is different. I prefer a scrollable list than discrete tabs since it is easier to skim through it, instead of trying to figure out what category it is in. If you know what category, you can scroll to the section with similar items. The main change I would make is if it remembered where you were scrolled to when you close the inventory.
"notch, have you become lazy? There was literally zero programing to do here since every creative feature you can possibly want was already made probably 10 times by modders."
Creative is pretty much an updated Classic mode. \
Also,
Mods conflict with each other, Creative is safer, easier to obtain and easier to use than any Inv. Edit mod, therefore better.
God Mystify. Why are you settling for sub par or barely the same thing? TMI had support for custom mods as well. Will the creative mode work well with custom blocks? I doubt it.
They can try to make something better than the mods for once. I'm tired of them just doing the bare minimum for the things they add to the game. Put some ****ing effort into improving something if a mod can do it better.

I'm not extremely familiar with worldedit, but doesn't it rely on inputed commands? I think that breaks the simplicity Notch is going for. You don't need to remember commands to type, you don't have to figure out how to input parameters, you just select your items from the list and go. Granted, the more advanced functionality is useful, and makes for a good mod, but I don't think it fits into vanilla minecraft. Its a different paradigm.

Mods get to focus ALL of their attention on one feature. Mojang has to work with the entire game, adding all the features, maintaining the old ones, and fixing the bugs.
I'm mainly trying to determine how much of it is that creative mode is worse, and how much of it is that creative mode is different. Because coming in without a comparison, it seems pretty good to me. Hence why I am asking what is so great about the mods that it should be added. There might be some crucial feature of the mods that creative mode is desperately lacking. In which case, it should probably be added. I am trying to see how much truth there is to this beyond the initial "Its not what I'm used to so its bad" reaction.
It's satisfactory for a list of items. My main complaint is that all of the items get in the way of me finding the blocks that I need. It causes for a lot more scrolling than I think would be needed if everything was neatly organized in tabs.
It really irks me when people try to state that it's fine the way it is when they can make it so much better. Why should we settle for less? It will only encourage them to think that less is sufficient enough. It isn't!
My biggest grievance with creative is that blocks are TOO easy to break. I was flying around and found something buried in sand i wanted to expose. As I dug through the sand i was digging right through blocks even cobble that i wanted to leave. It seems like instead of blocks breaking instantly they should take just a little bit longer to break like how long a glass block takes.

Same here, I would love that. Build an insane build fast on creative, without the need of collecting resource on survival.
