Every time anyone complains about anything, you can almost guarantee that some noob will say "It's beta". Lately (for obvious reasons - enderman, void fog, animal nerfing, etc) I've been seeing this excuse more often.
When something first starts being "beta" bugs should be expected; but when something reaches the end of beta bugs should be extremely rare.
The final version of Minecraft is meant to be released in November, a little less than 2 months from now. It's at the end of beta.
Why are Mojang still adding new content? Are they insane? They're probably going to release "version 1.9" with a lot of new stuff (NPCs, animal breeding, some sort of "experience points" system, etc) and they won't have any time to fix all of the new bugs or most of the existing bugs.
Will the final release be a buggy piece of crud, or will they postpone the release of the final version (and miss the pre-Christmas spending frenzy)?
This is already the WoW forums. Just lots of junk. If you want sensible content you stick to mods and texture packs and such. These forum sections are 80% worthless threads.
At least they are being kinda honest about it. Take Farmville for example. They specifically reverted back to a "beta" status in order to avoid lawsuits. By saying "its in beta" they don't have to give refunds like full games do. At least Minecraft will be moving to full, so that after November if someone says "This isn't what I wanted, I want my money back" they will have to refund them.
After 1.9 nothing but bug fixing and lets say 1.9 is released at the end of the month, then they have a solid month of bug crushing. So I think they will have plenty of time because up to now no one at Mojang has spent a solid month (that I know of) working on nothing but bugs, and when ever a mojor update comes out later that day they have fixes for major bugs so if in a day they can crush a few major bugs, think what they can do in a month.
Yeah when the game gets out of beta bugs should be rare. However when a new update is released IN BETA the bugs should be expected. All you're doing is trying to make an excuse to whine. You say that bugs shouldn't be expected when beta is almost over.
If bugs shouldn't be expected in beta it wouldn't be beta, get it?
You don't want Mojang adding new content now? What are you, insane?
Good point, we're ridiculously close to release, but until then, it's beta, you can't complain about what you expect of the official release before it's released. Criticism at this point is good, but people who complain as if this is a released game... it isn't, there's a reason it isn't obviously. They have a lot of work to do, but you can't complain until they've actually failed to do it.
Minecraft is NOT a TRUE Beta. A true beta test is done by a third party of beta testers who have the ability to submit bug reports directly to Mojang. Mostly this would be comprised of an in-house team that a company would hire. The fact that we do not have a quick and reliable way of submitting bug reports for patching is what sets it apart. You cannot be a beta tester WITHOUT this ability. We are simply paying in advance for a finished product. This does NOT equal a true beta test.
Mojang should continue to update the game before it come out. And if they want to update after Minecraft comes out without potentially unsatisfied customers, they can make a "Minecraft 2 Beta (or Alfa)".
But you do realize that every game has bugs? Some very popular games have bugs so bad the game freezes up and they lose all their progress since they last saved?

What? Yes it is a true beta. You have a very narrow mind when it comes to how things should work, don't you? TONS of betas work like this, the only difference is that minecraft got insanely popular and exploded. Nuclear Dawn, on Steam, has a beta exactly like this, EXACTLY. (unfinished and everything) And guess what? It works great...

The beta's you are referring to are not true beta's either. A true software beta is done behind closed doors by a company before its released to avoid unwanted press that could result in poor sales for release day. The "open beta's" you are most likely thinking about are not about the bugs that are found(though some are indeed found i'm sure) its about the hype and internet videos that push a game to a successful release. There will always be a beta before the beta to prevent unwanted complaints(look whats going on right now) and to prevent damaging PR.
After reading your little rant I have to say that I agree 100% wig what you have to say, but then a part of me says "hey mr Paul allans in the top left corner of the screen it says 1.8.1 BETA" lawl... So yeh.. I was tempted to say that your a ****ing moron, but an indirect approach may prove to yield better results? Since people seem to only reference wow when making an observation regarding this game. I feel that I will as well. Blizzard/activation released wow many years ago. When the game was released in it's "final form" it was near impossible to play due to buggy quests/npcs/server lag that prevented you from staying connected to the server. Now that was the first few weeks of launch. Minecraft is clearly in beta and is going to be for roughly the next two months. It seems as though you are under the impression that a game that clearly advertises it's beta state of completion should be Running 100%?
Nobody cares. They're adding new content because new content is fun, and the game needs more content. Being bug free is no great virtue if there ain't much to the game to begin with, and frankly, nothing really magic happens on release day. It's not like the game is set in stone at that time. There's probably not going to be a flood of new players coming in and experiencing the game for the first time, forming their first impressions -- it's pretty much going to be just like any other release for most of the players, really. "Release day" is, at this point, an excuse for a party and not much else. There is no need for a feature freeze beforehand. In fact, it'd be a pretty bad idea at this point.
Lets be honest everyone who is going to buy minecraft already bought it. Also, everyone complains that they want more stuff added so they do that. Although, they need to divide some people up so you have people working on the next update while having like one guy who is working on bug fixes.
New stuff with new bugs I can understand. Things that were working just fine in 1.7 that weren't even changed in 1.8 but are now bugged just makes me go

lol the sales are ticking up by the hour... I doubt they'll get a -huge- sales bump after release, but I'd bet it takes a bit of a jump.
Of coure it da beta. But just cause you gon whine bout people gon say it beta dont change dat fact. It is a beta der fore it will be fixed in dey release. Just be patient when it not beta then you can complain bout it.
For god sakes at the very least use spell check your spell is terrible.
When new mechanics and features are first introduced, they will come with their own set of bugs. It's a given. It doesn't matter how "late" in development something is in it's release. That's all.
Nothing is going to change on release date, there will still be updates, maybe less frequent but it's not like notch is just going to stop adding to his game. Also with new content and patches for any game, bugs should be expected because code is being changed. It is a beta game, buying it you knew it wasn't going to be perfect, and if you didn't know that you must be handy capped.
When the game is fully release there will be more content patches/updates, minor tweaks and probably some new stuff. This game is amazing and all people do is complain about what is being added, don't like it? Suck it up.

I... what? No offense intended, but... what? Are you replying to the first post? It doesn't sound like you're even addressing the points that it raised but something somewhere else in the thread I'm not seeing. The original poster was not saying it should be running 100%. They were saying that, when a beta is near release, fixing bugs should be a priority, not creating them (via adding new features that will inevitably be buggy, just by the nature of how new features work). Playing coy with the namecalling doesn't make it mature, either.

lol good point though yours is far worse than mine. So I shall fix the sentence cause I can.

They type like that specifically to get responses like that. I think it's a fetish or something. Just ignore them.
