Does anyone else feel that the 1.8 update isn't at its fullest potential?
I feel that the 1.8 update is missing all the foundations!
I was looking forward to all these features but they won't come out until 1.9...
- Strongholds, but no bosses
- Villages, but no NPCs
- Levelling, but no skills
- Persistent animals, but no breeding
- Terrain generation, but with missing features (ie. snow, roses, mushroom biomes, better swamps and possibly volcanoes)
These seem like the key features to this update but obviously they are missing!
Who else will be waiting for 1.9?
Or am I just alone?
I have 1.7.3 atm, but i might get 1.8 just for the hell of it. :smile.gif:

I'm going to wait until 1.9 before making a judgement on this update, since it feels as though it really mostly laid the foundations, ie:
- Strongholds, but no bosses
- Villages, but no NPCs
- Levelling, but no skills
- Persistent animals, but no breeding
- Terrain generation, but with missing features (ie. snow, roses, mushroom biomes, better swamps and possibly volcanoes)
The new lighting, however, is very nice. The endermen could stand with a bit of a tweak to make them harder, since currently I find them very easy to kill. The blue spiders, on the other hand, could do with a bit of balancing in the form of an antidote for their poison.
I do like a lot of the aspects of 1.8, but it feels as though we won't be fully able to enjoy them until 1.9 rolls around to complete the experience.
1.7.3 has optifine, single player commands, faithful32 textures, an easy fog toggle, and my main world in its original form. It also wins for stability.
1.8 has new worlds with villages, extra-epic caves, new mobs, glitchy rain, lag, and my main world converted into an ugly brown desert biome. Many of the new features are incomplete, but I still like most of the changes.
Soon my preferred mods will be updated, and I'll be copying my world's main island, and pasting it into a new world's ocean, but until then, I run both.

Somebody drew a **** on the wall! But who did it? It was old chuckleberrybum, doing the kind of "draw-****-on-wall-thing". It was all he ever did. He drew his first phallic object when he was just 4 months old! You see, some people don't find a purpose in life, they just draw dicks. Now, kids get a job and a watermill, so you don't have to draw penises for a living!
seems like this update has all the foundations just not the rest lol
Which is pretty standard for any major update, such as 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7. So 1.8 being the same shouldn't come as a surprise to people, although it apparently has.
Out of curiosity, why 1.6.6 still? No love for the pistons? :tongue.gif:
Too lazy to update mcp and minecraft. And I personally don't use this redstone stuff, so I don't really care^^

Right there with you. I won't skip 1.8 but I won't build big projects either, just explore a little bit. With some biomes still missing (tundra) plus strongholds without bosses and villages without NPCs it will be necessary to start a new world in 1.9 again.
And really, making animals not spawning anymore without reproducing and sheep without regrowing wool ... what were they thinking???
1.8 is a major upgrade to mine-craft.
It's laying down the foundation and coding of what is to come.
A lot more is able to be done on mojang side after this update.
Its a huge improvement. You just need to wait and see what is built from it.

now its because of you its like this, Notch runs out of time because people are screaming at him to get 1.8 out, so he has to put it in two parts, 1.8, and 1.9, and thats why half of those things aren't out yet. The other half is because, well... better swamps? really?

Heh, yeah, I made this exact point earlier:

May the force be without you.
