ITT: Guy with full inventory of food complaining because its now useless on his PVP server.
Seriously, the hunger system is a lot more balanced than the old system. And im sure your "Hardcore" server will have a mod for classic food soon enough.
Sir, if you only play minecraft for PVP then GTFO.. I mean honestly if you wanted a pvp game then there are plenty other games that are better for it. I mean minecraft = Building Survival game.
Don't ruin a great new feature to a "Survival" game just because you want to prohardcoresmashnoobzwithasword.. Just leave it be.

The hunger bar isnt a bad idea but no food directly recovers health say your fighting a zombie and he knocks you down to 1 heart now you have to wait for your health to gradually increase instead of being able to eat food and get it back when you need it

This is why you should smart up and stop trying to charge in like a leeroy and get yourself killed.

This isnt old minecraft combat though, the new system makes it easy to take on any mob with practically zero health. If im on one health and a zombo comes at me I simply charge at him with my sword and send him flying back, rinse, repeat. And if I dont have enough hunger to charge? my fault for being unprepared.
There really isnt anything wrong with this system.

I hear some of you guys saying that this will shorten battles and make you "pick your battles more wisely". Do you really think that's a good thing!?!? A typical minecraft battle was short enough anyways, we don't need it to be shorter! And what the hell are you going on about with realism? Minecraft was never realistic, I don't see why it should start to be now. Sure eating a porkchop doesn't grow back an arm in real life but neither does punching a tree give you wood. Also eating a porkchop doesn't slowly help you heal back your arm in a few seconds either, so you just contradicted yourself there.
Half of you have never even been on a pvp server, the other half still holds down the mouse to attack instead of fast-clicking.

I realize you guys think "minecraft isn't about pvp" but look at the beta servers section, half of them are pvp servers. It's not all about pvp but it's a big part of the game, a big part the new hunger system just made meh
I mean look at it this way, would you rather have a 3-5 second skirmish and whoever was lucky enough to get in the first hit wins? or would you rather have it be who knows when to eat instead of attacking, when to be aggressive, when to eat? When to retreat and shoot arrows? etc etc.
I LOVE the new bow mechanics, crit hits, blocking, etc, but I for one hate the new healing system. We should be trying to prolong battles, not make them 1-5 second skirmishes >.>
I'm mixed on this. I like the hunger bar idea, but hope there will still be direct healing foods as well, because the hunger bar heals way to slow when your playing on hard and happen to find a dungeon. Well, at least you know that even if Mojang doesn't add in the option, someone will make a 1.7.3 food mod eventually.

But, just like in any community of ANY game theres the small portion who will always scream "I DONT LIKE CHANGE!"

yeah if a fight ends in 4 blkows it doesn't involve skills but if the losing side instantly heals with a single click, it really involves skills. Yeah, I like this new way of rational thinking...

Instead, you sprint at the zombie to knock him back and then escape to a safer spot. Or barricade yourself in for a bit.
Both of which are much more realistic and add better atmosphere than glugging a mushroom stew or two and instantly hopping back into action.

And playing MC for PvP is pretty lame imho. It dowsn't involve skills and it's too limited. If you want a pvp game with swords, armors and bows etc., go play mount and blade..
No worries there will probably be a Redo Plugin for PVP servers so its like the way it was before the 1.8 cept the hunger doesn't work and the food actually heals you. Trust me someone will make it.
I read this whole thread and even if you aren't a PvP person, why are you against Hunger being toggable? Will it hurt you in any way? If you like it, then keep it on. If you don't like it, then turn it off. It's really simple, it's not hard.
