I like hunger atm, just not the food props, when eating it should heal you a couple of hearts because spider poison can drag you to 1/2 which is ****ing STOOPID, and then have to sit and wait 45 sec before having enought hp to try again.
This is a good way to add hunger into the game, I think it decreases at a perfect rate, and with Cows 'n' Chickens cow dropping food, it's just easier.
Also I do not see how you can say this is a "building game", as this is how Notch has said he wanted MineCraft to become. Just wait for November and the final release will be out and then we can all complain how it has changed.
Well thats were your wrong if notch started a block building game as a survival then it would still have 10 000 Player base the sandbox is what gave this game its start and he should stick to in a way. but yes if that is hes goal he should still stick to the founding nature of the game.
I think it has its pros and cons. Obvious con is that if you don't have food on you you're screwed once your hunger bar dips past a certain point. But at the same time there are tons of new ways to get food now so it really shouldn't be an issue, especially since they stack. And it doesn't go down so fast that you're constantly eating.
I do wish there was a specific food that would instantly restore hearts and your food bar, however. Would be nice in a bind.
I don't particularly care for hunger either way, as I don't play Minecraft vanilla anymore, but from a game development stand point it opens up new opportunities in the future. We no longer have a way to directly restore health, and we have the addition of new status effects like poison and illness, which may pave the way for the alchemy system Notch spoke of so long ago.
Personally, I feel that we regenerate health too fast now. With food being stackable and food sources being as ridiculously common as they seem to be now, hunger is simply not a challenge. It's an annoyance, if anything. You aren't concerned about locating food. That's not something crucial to your survival on the first night; you're more likely to be focused on building a shelter. All you have to do is remember to slaughter one of the oh so common pigs. By the time hunger actually becomes an issue, you'll probably have your first harvest of wheat. Never, at any point, will hunger become as important to you as avoiding that creeper, dodging that skeleton, or slaughtering that godawful spider on your roof. When you finally notice that your hunger bar is getting low, your reaction will be "Sigh, let me find some mushrooms", not "Crap, better get to the surface quick!" Hunger alone adds nothing but tedious annoyance to the game. Hunger combined with other systems may have potential.

Stupid people say stupid things. Sometimes smart people say stupid things too. It's when the stupid people say smart things that life gets interesting.
WRONG! It is needed because it adds a relativistic feel to gameplay without ruining it because it doesn't go down too fast so no, we need it.
Are you serious, if you want a realistic game play Sims, in life there are no Creepers, or giant evil Spiders, also in Life you dont punch dirt and get a block in your backpack!
It needs to be even more aggressive! I barely even notice when my hunger is down. I'll notice it after about an hour, like "Oh...Right...Eat.", then go back to doing what I was doing. It seems like performing actions like fighting and mining, which should drain hunger, don't. It just arbitrarily goes down after a while, and there's no sense of challenge. I understand that maybe on Easy or Medium, Hunger shouldn't be an issue, but on Hard (Which is how I play), Hunger should be a BIG issue, and you should always have to be eyeing your bar to make sure you aren't starving yourself while mining.
Nothing ruins a game quicker than having to constantly stop to perform some pointless behavior just to keep playing as normal.
Generally, I agree.
However, this is an interesting mechanic. One thing that it does accomplish is to prevent spamming food for health. And it's doing it in a very interesting and unique way.
On a positive note, there's no real shortage of food anymore, now that nearly all passive mobs drop some sort of food, and now that food can be stacked. So keeping the bar full shouldn't be a problem.
On a negative note, you're now forced to wait quite a bit between battles with no way of getting health back quickly. I found that defeating a poison spider spawner was a nearly impossible task. I couldn't kill poison spiders fast enough to get to the spawner, and the wait between fights actually made it kinda boring.
IMO the rate of healing should be increased.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
Sir, it's called survival for a reason. Go play creative if you don't want to do something awesome, fine by me. Notch made the game a lot better with this update. Bring 2 porkchops with you, it's not that hard.
It is 'triggered' by activity, from what I noticed, fighting and sprinting take up the most, while walking normaly (or standing still) drains nearly none. I can build a complete castle and only lost 1 or 2 hunger-thingies.
Though I think jumping also takes some hunger.
Standing still, however, you can do for an eternity without getting hungry.
There must be factors that I wasn't taking into account then at the time. When I first started my new map, I lost more than half my hunger bar in the few minutes it took to build a 6x5x3 house. I didn't sprint, and killed only one or two mobs.
However today when I started working on a very makeshift farm which took far more effort than my lackluster shelter, it only took one chunk.
I haven't had enough experience to say for certain how it functions, but I have enough of an idea to back up the concepts and philosophical points listed in my post. Besides, the remainder of my paragraph that you quoted went on to simply dismiss that entire rant if hunger truly doesn't deplete while being afk.
I like it and think it was a good addition to the game. It stops food being more like a health potion so you can't just spam food. I'm sure there'll be a mod that removes it though, so you could just download that.

No. This makes the game much more fun. It adds a sense of realism in a to be slightly realistic game. It could have small tweaks, but it is much better than it used to be (health only).
It makes the game more challenging and in turn much more fun. I'm sorry if it's too hard for you.
"sometimes, wizards are so awesome, it hurts"
1. GO to peaceful.
2. Go back to creative

Food really isn't that hard to get. It also adds more difficulty to certain seeds (like Arctic ones, mountainous ones, island ones).
I wouldn't mind if they let you turn it off, though.

So dont ask for realistic in a non-realistic game

But then again, I liked sailing too... I miss Wind Waker. Time to buy a Wii/Gamecube!
Have you seen some of the structures people have created in Mineccraft?
A hunger bar is just an interesting mechanic.
What people do when they're creative is awesome.
It makes the game more challenging and in turn much more fun. I'm sorry if it's too hard for you.
