I'm just going to say what I know some of us are thinking: Hunger is the worst thing that has ever happened to this game.
Nothing ruins a game quicker than having to constantly stop to perform some pointless behavior just to keep playing as normal. It breaks up the action, which in itself is unacceptable. To validate that point, I offer one of the chief arguments that was used against The Legend of Zelda-Wind Waker. Many people strongly disliked having to stop their play to sail. I acknowledge that eating takes up no where near the amount of time sailing did in that game however it is still a break from gameplay that adds nothing enriching to the experience.
It also means that we now have to have much more food with us at all times when we are underground. How many people here take inventories of axes down to the bottom of the world with the intention of staying there as long as possible to mine as much as you can? Well now that will be constantly interrupted by either being unable to stay there as long due to having inventory space taken up by food instead of mined blocks, OR you'll have to spend long sessions of play collection meats to take down there and store. This has added nothing to the mining aspect of the game or the craft aspect of the game.
Running is nice. Who wants to do it when it depletes your hunger and ultimately your health? As if the game wer enot already aggressive enough.
Does anyone agree with me? Think I'm an idiot and want to tell me why at length? I look forward to hearing all your opinions and encourage anyone who agrees with me to make as much noise about it as possible so Notch can see what he has done. (I still love you Notch, you just made a rare mistake.)
I kind of agree. For an example, I'll use Fallout New Vegas's "Hardcore" mode, which made it necessary to eat, drink, and sleep regularly. It was supposed to add challenge to the game, but all it really did was make it more time-consuming. Like Minecraft, it wasn't difficult to find stores of food, it was just annoying having to check on your "hunger/thirst/sleep" bar all the time.
I don't like it because you heal incredibly slowly, if your hungry you don't heal until you're full and if your fighting something you have to stop for 2 seconds to eat which gives a skeleton enough time to shoot you three times or a creeper enough time to blow you to hell.
I dont want hunger to be removed, only able to be turned on and of. :smile.gif:
I seriously think this is the best way to solve any and all problems with food. People who like Hunger can keep it on, people who don't can turn it off. Easy.

Yeah, that would be a fair compromise to me. I disagree that the best alternative to this is to set it to peaceful. I like the challenge of fighting the critters that come after you. I simply dislike having to wait to heal for no good reason and loosing health just because I had the nerve to play for ten minutes, regardless of how plentiful food is. My issue was never with the availability of food, which I would argue is actually over abundant now.
I think it's fine, but it goes down too fast. I think you should only start dying after 4 days of not eating.
I still maintain it should at very least be possible to disable it, but I would definitely feel better about the mechanic if it were more as you described it. It goes down entirely too quickly for my taste.
play the game of that of my avatar and you would go crazy, so yeah i don't really agree with you, i like the hunger system but removing the toggle fog key is what i think one of Notch's biggest mistake.
EDIT: when i mean crazy, you will go crazy with disaters, morale, combat and research all in real time.
A. Food stacks. Easy to have way, way more than enough. Plus animal mobs are huge now. On top of that villages are full of wheat already. So, again, there's no supply issue.
B. It does have a purpose. It lets you sprint (which is pretty fun imo plus changes up how you can play the game at times) and like before helps you regenerate health (without being a fire and forget healing potion.)
Now, if it was irritating to use I'd be with you. I hate games that just want to hide the food from you then make you die. But it's not like that.
i'm fine with the hunger because there is tons of wheat at the towns and there are lots of animals, and in one day in minecraft i got more than 50 beef just from walking around.
What ? Hunger is great thing in minecraft. I have been waiting for this since i play this game. If you want to build go to creative mode. I just tryed out beta 1.8 pre and its freaking awesome. Best update ever. Its not hard to get nourished. You kill one cow and you get 3 beefs you kill chicken you get 1 chicken food so what else do you want ? You get food from everything you kill and hunger adds realistic to game and its fun to play.
I don't think that you should have to chose between the current leaked version of survival and creative. Not liking one mechanic of the game does not mean I wish to take away ALL challenge. I simply am not fond of making a game more difficult in a way that does not enhance gameplay. Eating does not enhance gameplay. The same argument was made by fans of GTA-SA. It was obnoxious to have to stop and eat, even though food was plentiful. It wrecks the pacing of the game, which has long enough hours in the collection phase to begin with.
