I think that most of the things being added to the game are going to make the game worse. The only thing i see being better is the biomes and the new lighting. Oh and of course the new mob.
the game is easy as hell when you have a bit of armor, an iron sword, and half a brain, then it gets boring. Really 1.8 makes pve/pvp more interesting, now there are actual reasons to explore, it all looks great. The only drawback is that it will probably be buggy for a while. But thats why we are beta testers.

Don't we all just love the buggy time after an update?

So making the game a very slight challenge makes you hate the game?
The game is easy as heck after you get freaking stone tools. You barely have to try, even in Hard mode. 1.8 is adding difficulty and reward for exploration and battle. Notch is making Minecraft into a better game.

The average gamers these days...
No, not hate the game. Just make it worse. I'm just afraid the new bow power selection is going to make fighting mobs too easy and that sprinting is going to make getting away from mobs easier. Plus other things, but i'm not going to go into detail.

You can't tell me combat is exciting. Seriously we need more combat additions and that's what 1.8 is doing. Too easy? Play hardmode. Play hardcore. Die=delete save. Now is it too easy?

I think the bow mechanics will be balanced out from the charge time, and also sprinting is balanced out by the fact it wears down its hunger bar faster.
I'm pretty sure there are controversial things for almost EVERY update I've seen (I've been playing Minecraft since Beta 1.2), like beds, wolves, even balance changes. Its quite difficult to introduce something in Minecraft without people bickering about it.
And the machine gun bow we have now doesn't make fighting easy? I usually play on peaceful unless I need a mob drop because the fighting is so boring. With all the new fighting updates like blocking and bow charging might actually make it fun to fight mobs. Plus the hunger bar brings a new challenge. I think the update is a step in right direction.

Very true about being difficult to introduce new things without bickering. I've also been a player of minecraft since the alpha.

I think notch needs to introduce new forms of swinging the sword. Like hold right click then left click to swing the sword sideways and do extra damage. That could spice up the combat system.
I think it makes a lot of things better, and adds a lot of peoples suggestions ( Villages, Mineshafts ). The new combat mechanics are awesome, but I think that critical strikes should just be like a 1 out of 5 or 1 out of 10 instead of just jumping.
Sorry for spelling error in title.
generation. Social experiment.

Wow someone has brains on the Minecraft Fourms. You don't see that everyday.

I wasn't even being sarcastic. I love that little time when there are bugs after a new update.

I've been here since 1.2...whoa. That's Alpha....The most I've built is a castle...
