You guys need to get off of Notch's nuts. If anyone criticizes Notch or Mojang in the slightest, oh dear lord here comes the wahh-mbulance. "Oh no don't insult poor little indie Notch hes just a small guy developing games while working 4 jobs and he does'nt deserve criticism". Grow up. Oh, and to all of you saying that they only got like two people working on it. Maybe Notch should hire some more people with all of the money hes made like a real company does so the game can be worked on while hes having his little fun with his 48 hour crappy game-making stream.
More developers =/= better game.
It is a specific decision Notch made not to hire a ton of people. There is a huge difference between writing code with a friend and writing code as part of a company. I have done both. And if the project is of a scope that allows it, writing code with a friend is much better. You have a much easier time building a unified vision of what you are doing, understanding how all of the code works. In a large group, everyone has blinders one, focused on their little corner of the code. You ever hear of the phrase "too many cooks spoil the soup"? It holds for program's too. A company with many people is what you need to produce a AAA game with 10 square milesof hand-crafted terrain, a thousand NPCs with their own subplots, 10 million different models to flesh out the world. That is not what minecraft is. It is not what minecraft should be. It is a large part of the practical difference between an indie game and a industry game. Minecraft is not a game that should be built by throwing manpower at it.
And that 48 hour game? That was his weekend. Any development done on weekends is above and beyond. Unless you think Notch is a robotwho can work 24/7 without pause?

Pretty sure if you watch any of the "Making of's" by Bethesda you would see that they go insanely beyond the bill to put out wonderful games.
And to the big company thing, I am not saying every body gets to put there spices in notchs gumbo soup. I am saying he needs to at least hire a work-horse to do his bidding while he is messing around (Wedding not included).

Tell what: When you make a multi-million dollar game, you can hire people to develop it however you please. Personally, I would hate to have a "workhorse" to plug away at it. I would want to hire highly skilled people, and put those skills to use. Which means I would want to collaborate with them. Which means I would want someone I know I can work well with. Which means I would hire someone I know is an excellent coder and game designer, and who I have worked with before. That way, our combined skill can help move the game along.
Wait a minute, that is exactly what Notch did. Hmmm. Maybe he actually has a reason for choosing the employees he has?

You see, the part you don't seem to get is you are comparing a huge game company who has been making games for years and years, to a small group of people who have only been working on games for a few years at most.
@Lil the whole purpose of a MOD API is to make all of them work in harmony, also if you don't back up your saves then you're an idiot
Haha. deed, do you even know what an api is? Let me give you a clue, it does NOT make mods work in harmony.
1. I am going to say what I say cause I can since I havemade a small mod and it was fricken HARD. I cannot imagine working on a whole new thing, that wont crash with previos things, and has minimal bugs.
2. Mods conflict with eachother due to how the code is written. Mods overwright base classes and when two mods overwrite the same thing a hell breaks loose.
3. Too make a mod you would want an api to make the modding easier. If you ever heard of MCP than youve heard of an api. The one notch is giving out is just official so in MY OPINION spend LESS time on the api and MORE time making inecraft fat with many features. At least the I will not have to pray that the game works after each mod.
Mining and building games HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE.
Video games HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE.
Sources of entertainment HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE.
Doing anything HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE.
*sarcasm*
Just shut up. If Notch (or Mojang as a whole) can't do anything that's already been done as a mod, then they can't add crap to this game. Heck, if that was how the world works, then Minecraft couldn't have been made at all. In fact, I'm willing to bet that at least 75% of the content in this game was a mod at some point.

i agree, i think they barely work on minecraft and just update it to make everyone happy, the only original idea Notch has is the actual game (not really though bcuz there was different versions of this game before it came out)

Well now you are going back on you're whole soup speech about everyone wanting to put there idea in it. I said its all Notch's ideas but just put in by someone else (skilled in coding of course) while Notch is busy playing Portal 2.

Yep, because we all know that coding Minecraft TOTALLY isn't Jens' and Notch's full-time job. Pfft.

And that is a horrible way to run a game company, and explicitly how notch does not want to do it. I explained the rational behind how he does it.
A horrible way to run a company is to drum up a bunch of loyal fans who love there game and post all sorts of personal things on twitter that makes you look lazy while the customers who bought the game are waiting for a patch. You can call them losers. But Notch should of known what he was getting himself into. When you are big and make games and are indie, expect a die hard cult-following. When you put on tap shoes be prepared to tap *****.
Notch made a good game. But I feel with the way he handles it is highly unprofessional.
I agree, and about the support for modding in multiplayer. SPOUT ANYONE? Seriously some of you Notch drones need to do some research before you dish out nonsense.
Another thing. The whole "der be ovar 9000 modders in mincraft so it not fair" argument is nonsense as well. I wasn't aware that 100's of modders were working on the same mods. But yea, I think Notch hasn't bothered with the API because then people would just cause Mojang to do nothing with the game, and they want to look like they are doing something. When was the API supposed to come out? When was villages supposed to come out? NPC's? All been done already since Mojang took forever. It is their fault.
Btw, Mystify has over 3,000 posts. I wonder who he is going to support...
Ugh, not this.... just fraking GTFO if you don't like the game or the way they're doing it. And shut up about Mojang working too slowly on the game. Mojang staff ~= 10 people. Modders ~= A FRAK TON MORE THAN THAT. They make HUNDREDS of mods in the time Mojang releases a single update. Notch has said that he wants to keep it as his own game, and only respond to the community when he agrees with them. Right now, Jeb is working his ass off to get NPCs working properly, and they already sound like a hell of a lot better than Millenaire, which was extremely glitchy. They ARE working hard, they ARE working as quickly as possible (with a few breaks in between, everyone needs a break once in a while), and they are doing a great job (IMO). I hate adding mods, because it destroys my original experience, which was amazing, when I first picked up Minecraft. Don't like the game, GTFO.

You also need to realize that this is the development of a few versus hundreds on all those features WHILE making mod support. They are focusing on expanding the core game. Also they try to "balance" the game. A lot of the mods I see aren't very balanced. They are trying to add these features in a balanced nature and like some other people have said, those features are only part of this update.

All I heard was the woosh of air being blown up Notch's ass.
