if you notice by reading the notch's new blog post he said for example for the "added two new colors" and “testing experience and leveling to see if it’s fun”. Then someone on put the two new color on the wiki and jeb responded to this in his twitter by saying "Haha, somebody added "two new colors" as a "coming feature" on the Minecraft wiki. Oh, you people... =)"
so where they just example for a real feature or not?
I think I might know what it'll be. Notch mentioned that pigmen, the regular ones would be in npc villages. Notch is most likely adding npc villages in 1.8.
People are reading too much into the "Experience orb" thing and then spoutng prophesies of doom about it. We know nothing about how it would work, or even that it is actually going to be there. Any "doom and gloom" prophsising based on this scrap of information is unfounded. If Notch did change his mind and decided to add leveling, you c an be sure that it is not a whim. He will have considered how this will effect the game, and designed in a way that it does not ruin the gameplay.
Here is one hypothetical leveling scheme, and one of the prevaliant theories:
You obtain experience orbs through some method. Perhaps killing mobs, perhaps finding them in special locations. In either case, this is no different from any other resource in the game
You can then craft them with existing tools, or as part of making new tools, to get a more powerful version of the tool. This is not much different from making diamond tool, except you would be able to combine these resources with your other resources, making it a harder tier to reach. This then gives you a more powerful tool, that will last until used up.
While purely speculation, it is consistent with the evidence we have seen, and would not be some magical upheaval of the game mechanics, just an extension of existing mechanics with a twist. You wouldn't be grinding for experience any more than you grind for iron, nor would its lack prevent you from playing the game. In this example, you could introduce an resource called reinforceium and it could serve much the same purpose. It is nothing to panic or worry about.
I am not trying to claim that is how it is going to work, only to show that there are implementations of experience orbs that will work perfectly fine with the game and are nothing to worry about. Yes, there are things he could do with them that would weaken the game. But to assume that it must be one of them is baseless.
From what I understand it seems that you're saying it would be more like enchanting an item like some RPGs do. Perhaps instead of lasting until the tool or weapon break (assuming that's what it would be used on) the effect would only last for a designated number of uses with the ability to 'enchant' the item again. It could even last for a specified amount of time rather than uses. This could prevent someone from just stockpiling a large supply of the upgraded items. Then again the orbs could just be rare like golden apples in dungeon chests.
Also, @Denlock: You might be right but you got to agree that the Nateboy guy was quite... idiotic.
How was he idiotic? He stated that notch mentioned leveling on his blog. WHICH HE DID. Whether you people like it or not leveling is probly going to be in-game.

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do.
And those that don't.

Rain, rain, go away,
THAT'S WHAT ALL THE HATERS SAY.
Already implemented are new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas. To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and npc villages.

This will be the best update in history.
Also, you forgot "two new colors" and the fact that they are testing the leveling system.
so where they just example for a real feature or not?
However, I'm not going to flame abbot it. There's a ton of features which sound amazing, like new lighting, new mob (is it hostile?) and shears.
Also, you forgot that notch said appletreesmay happen
The world is theoretically infinite, I don't think you will run out of space
As someone said once *-*
he also used the experience thing as an example, but thats almost confirmed right? so why cant the 2 new colors feature be real?
because of this http://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/85708056213729280

I second this. I can't access twitter right now at this computer, so I can't check. Where was this stated?

Chill, bud. He could have changed his mind. In either case, there's no need to capslock at people.

I'd avoid a word like idiotic. I would say credulous.
Anyone got a citation for that release date?

as discussed before in this thread those two are still iffy, since we don't know if they were real examples or fake ones.
