Hey guys
I just updated to 1.5_01 and im addicted to getting 1 million kilometres on minecart :smile.gif:
im going to use powered minetracks over a huge space, not just a larger circle :smile.gif:
i am accepting donations and will hopefully make a few commentaries of my journey :biggrin.gif:
im adding a few large jumps and falls, when i make 1 million Ks i will upload my world for download!
Website: http://minecarts.weebly.com
I have just finished some mods and im going to build a website!
(Minecraftmodcenter.weebly.com) check it out!
So it takes 1400 days for just traveling... and we say that building takes 3 times longer than traveling with minecart.. thats around 16 years of work....
So let's say that he reaches 1 million kilometers, and his rails are entirely straight. If he uploads his world when he finishes like he says he will (zip compressed), how large will that generated world be?
Good luck! :smile.gif: Seems like quite the undertaking.
In all honesty, not to be a downer, I highly doubt you will accomplish this. The posts before are accurate. This would take an incredible amount of time to complete. Not to mention the task of laying all that track would be fairly boring. At least for me.

1 Million kilometer = 1 Gigameter = 62.5 Megachunks in length
Assuming 5 chunks on both sides, for a total of 11 chunks width, that would make a total of 687.5 Megachunks in size.
As each chunk is sized 16*16*128 this would be around 22.5 Terablocks.
Assuming each block takes 2 bytes of storage, this would total at 45 TB
a straight track of 1 million blocks would take
45 TB disk storage
62.5 Million Iron Ore
7.8 Million Coal
47 Million Logs

SMP didn't work in Alpha? THAT'S WHAT YOU PAID FOR! (still, no excuse for 1.6 Beta)

Dawwww why did you have to post this it would have been more fun when his HD filled up and the game kept crashing :biggrin.gif:
I THINK NOT KIND SIR!
thats about 1/3 of my track :smile.gif:
I don't think so, but he doesn't have to go straight. He can turn, go up, go down, go over and under previous tracks.
Support Coloured beds!
You do it,
Its not fun
obviously, because he's gonna have to quit his job to build this. so he's gonna have to pay rent somehow
Back from a short break!
Maps can conceivably generate forever.

Because a track that turns is impossible
