And there are probably more packs which I don't know about yet. It's just these 2 I was mostly aware of. Some users also commented on this thread that they're adding this to their own packs.
How would you make multiple of the same block? I know you have to put in the source thingy for one block to random, but are you supposed to do.. Lets say you have terrain31.png (gold ore) and you want a third, would you do, terrain31-2.png? Im confused.

you have to make different properties files (not png files for each block) named terrain31, terrain32 and so on. For textures you use large png files that have 256 spaces (step 3). Let's say that in the properties file (terrain31.properties) you have gold randomization, so you write the code, then pick the tiles you want the use from the large png file (step 3 as I said). Single texture file from step 3 has 256 tiles as i said, so it can contain 5 textures for wood, then 3 or even 200 textures for gold and many more for any block you want.

So you would make a terrain1, and that would be a whole png file, and then edit every block to be different?
is there a tutorial somewhere for making different textures for the fences and cobble walls? I can't find one...
You can't from what I know, The fences take the same texture as wood planks, and then place it on to the fence model, same with cobble walls, so probably not.

Oh wait, now I think I get it.

Nope, What I have in my ctm folder is terrain31 (big terrain image with changed gold) and terrain31 properties file (inside is source=/ctm/terrain31.png
method=random
tiles=0-2
weights= 1 1) Can you tell me what to write and what to do with my images?

everything seems OK, but you don't have to name terrain image "terrain31" It can hold more textures for other blocks and multiple properties files can have their source file exactly same, just make sure your tiles are set correctly. (you put gold in 0, 1, 2 tiles so if you add some wood for example in 3, 4, 5 tiles, you'll have terrain(number).properties for wood written as source=/ctm/terrain31.png (same terrain file) tiles=3-5 weights...
2 properties files and only one terrain texture file for this
Are you sure you have optifine or mcpatcher installed?
please let me see your terrain31.png picture if possible then

Yeah, I have MCpatcher, (my texture pack is XDcraft) IDK how to post pics but I can explain the pictures though, so my normal terrain has a gold (just like every other terrain) and then terrain31 has a changed gold. And I have the source file, Im going to try what you said.

Wait, So would you need a property file for each texture?
you got it completely wrong, texture file must NOT be another terrain.png but with changed gold, just leave it completely blank and nicely (to a grid) put as many textures as you can fit (256 in total). In your occasion, you put few gold textures in 3 first tiles.
And yes you need property file for each block.
Aaand just watch greywulf's video tutorial, It's the source I used making this one.

Yes, you can. Texture packs such as PureBDCraft and DokuCraft do this, but I can't figure out how. Anyone else know of a tutorial?
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/26727-johnsmith-texture-pack-v97-32x-142/ One of my favorites. Recently added some random textures (not all). Gravel, grass, wood, bricks and few more.
and http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/69354-64x142-misas-realistic-texture-pack-updated-25oct2012/ This one should have more of them, I wasn't checking this one out.

Close. It actually is supposed to rotate the textures; as seen here http://imgur.com/a/A6ujp#0.
I've been aware of this, but here's a post right on this page you probably didin't see, check the link for fix.
I think it uses the same glass texture which is for blocks.

Nevermind, Gold ore is 32 -_____________-
