I got the game a week or so ago, and while I have the gameplay down, I was looking for someone to play SMP with because none of my friends play Minecraft. I'm not a noob, but I'm not nearly as versed in Minecraft as a lot of people. I'm looking for someone to play with and have a nice, chill server
Yeah, that's another problem. I have absolutely no idea how to host a server. I downloaded the client and a bunch of scripts showed up on my screen so I got scared and shut it off

I really like helping out people and just plain playing the game. I'd be a good minebuddy :smile.gif:

Don't be afraid, that's just how the server works. Ask around for more info on how to host it.Hopefully I'll see you in the game!

That is your private internet protocol (IP). Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ to find out your external IP, which is used for connecting to a Minecraft server.
I can't connect. I could try to set it up myself if you explain how
1. Go to minecraft.net
2. Go to "download"
3. Scroll down, look for server download (too lazy to put it up)
4. Download it.
5. Open it, a screen will appear
6. It might say a few errors or something
7. On the bottom of the server screen, type "stop" and enter.
8. Just exit out normally if it doesn't.
9. Move the server app to it's own folder
10. Open it, then once it's done loading, enter "stop"
11. There should be a bunch of new folder crap.
12. Go to the file that says "server" (should be a properties file)
13. Right click, then "open with"
14. Select to open with notepad.
15. enter all the stuff you want.
16. For server IP, leave blank
17. LEAVE EVERYTHING OPEN THEN FOLLOW THESE STEPS
1. Go to Control Panel in start menu.
2. Click "View network status and tasks"
3. At lest, click "Manage wireless networks"
4. click your router.
5. Go to "properties"
6. Go to "IPv4" (I think that's what it's called)
17. LEAVE EVERYTHING OPEN THEN FOLLOW THESE STEPS
Go to start menu, in the search bar, type "cmd" then hit "enter"
Type down "ipconfig" Note all the numbers and what they are.
Exit cmd.
Go back to the router things, then hit "use the following IP address"
Put down your IP except change the last section to whatever you want
Fill out all the rest with the ones given.
Now, back to the server properties, put down your new IP address, oh, and if you haven't already, exit out of the router stuff; make sure it's saved.
Anyways, exit out of the server properties; saving it.
Go to web browser, in the top bar, type down your original IP. It is in the top bar, although it doesn't seem like a website URL.
Example of what to type: 192.168.1.1
Find your port settings. Enter 25526 (I believe, go to google and search "minecraft port" for confirmination) for the external input or output stuff. Put down your new IP for the port.
Save.
Open server.
Try it out.
I was really lazy making this, use youtube if you need more help.

I'm really good at survival, just not as used to being in multiplayer.
