Hi, I'm trying to figure out a way to play Minecraft off a USB stick- I understand ways to do this pretty easily for Windows but I'm having no luck on Mac.
It seems I can get the portable launcher onto a USB for Mac and it works; I just don't have the portable java for Mac and I can't find a way to download it.
Essentially I'd like to have this USB to have Minecraft on it to run portable without installing Java and for it to work on both Windows and Mac, but right now it's not looking very possible, and many links and such that I've found are outdated or broken.
just gonna go ahead and ask why your trying to do this...

It's pretty simple. I want to play Minecraft without downloading it or downloading Java onto computers that aren't mine. Such as at the library or on my parents' computers where I don't want those files on there.
I'm still having no luck 4 hours into researching this. I'm close to giving up. This shouldn't be so difficult.. I would figure more people would be interested in portable Minecraft for Mac and Windows but it seems all links are outdated, don't work when installed correctly, or are just plain broken.
Technically since Java is cross platform and runs in it's own self contained virtual machine, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it should work on Mac, Linux and Windows?
The portable version should work similarly, then..
Put the java installer and the minecraft launcher on the flash drive, install both then delete .minecraft and uninstall java with the uninstaller in the control panelby deleting the icon in the applications folder when you're done. You can probably make a batch file to uninstall java but you can't for minecraft.

This is a great idea, but would it work cross platform? Say from Windows to Mac, what would I need to do in order to make that work?

After messing with this I realized it didn't work across Mac. What I seem to need is the java portable for Mac, which apparently doesn't exist.

"Hey guys, just wondering, how do you dispose of a corpse? Say 210lbs and about 5'11"? I totally do not have a body I need to dispose of but I need a step by step guide on how to get rid of it, but again it's not a body, I swear it's just uhhh..... An old refridgerator, yah that's it, sure."
It's quite clear what he is not-so-subtly trying to do.

We are not going to help you do something illegal, against your school's policies, and against the law. The computers are not yours.
