Hello all, I'm mostly directing this question at those who know more than I do about the thermodynamics of a computer's guts.
I bought a new hard drive, but I didn't have the right tray for my case. I ordered an extra part, but the folks at coolermaster either didn't pay attention to my model or they have stopped making trays for the old 912, because I got a newer version of the tray that doesn't fit.
So, I want to know whether it would be advisable/safe to
a. Superglue the tray on top of the HDD cage
b. Hot the glue the tray on top of the HDD cage
c. Use electrical tape with the tray.
Thanks for any replies. I might end up drilling a bunch of holes, but I want to avoid that.
I have no idea what you mean by tray. The HAF 912 doesn't use trays to mount HDD's. It just has things you put on the sides of them so they can slide into the cage.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.

Well damn.
I've put together so many other rigs since I built mine that I forgot. I just glanced at the black plastic tabs at the end and thought it was a tray like some other cases have. I feel like a moron.
Anyway, I have a 3.5" HDD tray that goes to a different CM case; will glue work?
i dont understand. pics? I don't see why you can't just leave the drive on the bottom of the case unscrewed, never failed me before. As long as you don't move your pc around that often its fine. Or you can just flip it upside down and use some double sided tape to stick it to the bottom if you really wanted to.

Nope nope. I'd recommend using the electrical tape. Your HDD get's rather hot when it's running, coolant fan or not, and the glue may melt and create a rather large mess inside your rig and possibly ruin your hard drive.

I've used industrial strength Velcro before, works fairly well.
I'm not comfortable with leaving a $100 piece of electronics unsecured in the bottom of my case, but thanks also for that suggestion. That just feels too insecure to me.
yeanah whats with everyone on mcf overthinking everything? Letting it rest on the bottom of the case won't risk it in any way. I have done more unorthodox things in the past. I don't want to seem like a badass but I have never used an anti static wrist strap.

When I went to Microcenter to pick up parts when my brother was putting together his computer, I was going to get an anti-static band and an employee there actually said not to. He basically said it's a waste of money because components are so safe now that as long as the environment you're in or the clothes you're wearing doing attract a lot of static, you're fine. He even said that they don't use anti-static bands at all when handling equipment in the back of the store.
And I think most people don't want any parts in their computer to be just kind of sitting their unsecured. Velcro is easy enough to do and will keep the HDD nice and secure.

Aww, you guys have intelligent Microcenter employees? The guy on duty tried to make me buy this Acer desktop with a 610 and told me that it would be better than whatever I would be putting together when I bought my 3570k.

I secured one corner of my SSD by bending a paperclip so it hooked one corner to a little tie-down spot bottom. The other end is held up by the SATA power cable. so it's kind of just hanging there. Works great.

i5 4670k @ 4.9GHz - Stock Heatsink - The rest is melted silicon but I think I have a graphics card in there somewhere It surprises me how many people on this forum can't read benchmarks.
I have the same question, I hotglued my SSD to the bottom of my case. But recently it's coming loose, are there any better method for me?
Industrial strength Velcro, that stuff is strong. I use it to attach the battery to my RC plane. It sort of partially came loose once when the plane came crashing down from about 30 or 40 feet up after the wing snapped in half.
