Yes, they use IE, but that is because IE is set up in such a way that it protects from malware and other problems. You installing firefox makes those useless.
It is when they don't let it load stuff from websites they deem unsafe.
Yes, and it pissed me off so much whenever I would go to a lab and the keyboard would wobble because someone took one of the feet off the keyboard.
Yeah, its stupid, sometime they will also open up the optical drives and remove the belts in them to they act funny, morons... speaking of this for some stupid reason the cad room (makes sense), the writing lab, math lab, and testing center all have widescreen monitors, yet the video/art computer labs (where they are actually needed) have the same crap monitors the rest of he school uses...
Also one of the computers in the writing lab has a blue tinge to it, wasn't something that had to do with the monitor settings so I assumed the tech guys screwed something up. Sort of like how half the computers use the wrong drivers and freeze up/black out all the time.
Then someone installs firefox, and boom! that was useless. Cookies eveywhere, popups slowing the system down, drive-by malware all over the place.
Yes and yes. Schools do NOT get this stuff for free. You break it, it usually stays broken until they upgrade in 5+ years.
GG
Why can't computer companies make this stuff idiot prove? For example laptops could have a coat of rubber on the outside to prevent damage from being dropped. in the case of keyboards they could make them with bumps instead of flipping stands
I like what my school does, it works on a three strike system.
If you are dumb enough to go on non-permitted websites the teacher submits a strike, the strike is then added, once you get three strikes you are no longer allowed on the computers until you get all your strikes appeased or removed. A lot of the time kids get 2 strikes and then stop knowing they won't be able to do much.

The rubber would not be enough to protect anything from damage, you would need serious engineering there, which is expensive.
Keyboards need to be adjustable for a number of reasons.
My school put up so many restrictions that the teachers can't even do their jobs, but I have an app that gets around it every time. It's not recognised as a browser.
Ohhhh... I love how some people think they could run an IT department just because they know how to install Firefox and fiddle around with the command prompt...
While I understand the point behind it, I've had times where I question why they have internet at all because it's so locked down.
at least the internet at my college is decent, no restrictions that I've encountered, 50 up/down on their computers, 10 up 5 down on my ipod. only gripe is that i have to log in every time after putting it to sleep.
Where does everybody get this extreme sense of entitlement these days? If you want to alter someone else's property, you have to ask them first. Some people on here seem to forget that their actions have consequences which might affect other's in a negative way. By "fixing" these things you benefit yourself while the IT department has to deal with the problems you caused.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
I have to wonder why kids always act like they're entitled to everything. They know a few things about computers or some script kiddy tips they picked up online so they go around and screw up school computers when they should be doing work in the first place.
Let me take a moment and slow clap for you believing you are special.

At my school, the IT dept. hates the restrictions more than the students. For some reason, I don't think they will mind not having to deal with them.
That makes sense, the IT department hates the IT department's security setup.
Next up the chef hates his own soup and you shouldn't feel bad for spitting in everyone's bowl before it goes out to them.
The entire department doesn't get the password to get around it, and they don't choose to put it up, the headmistress makes them put up way more than they would.
Its stupid how teachers at my school have their computers with the restrictions.
The teachers at my school don't, or at least didn't when one of them got fired for watching porn in class. (yes, I said teacher, watching porn, in class).
IE, safe?
Would this include kids ripping off the stands for the keyboards or screwing with the monitor colors?

They also use deepfreeze.
Keyboards need to be adjustable for a number of reasons. Because it is not your computer and you make any security that was already on the machine pointless.

Pretty much my exact thoughts the moment I read his post.
