i find that their pcs are just as good as any other manufacturer. ive gone to big stores such as tigerdirect and compared the build quality of dell vs lenovo vs asus. there wasnt that much of a difference. their inside hardware is also rock solid and if treated right, seems to run forever. (seriously, i have a 14 year old dell laptop that works and all, i just keep it for screwing around with old programs and stuff) but everyone on this forum seems to say they have extremely poor hardware and die quickly. i just want to know why you guys put this label on dell all the time. They also arent that overpriced aside from their alienware series. i have a dell latitude that is about equal to a $2000 thinkpad from its time. i have the receipt and all for it. it cost $1200 for 1 gig ram (overkill for the time), 80gig hard drive (also overkill for the time), and a 1730mhz pentium m processor (yes i count speed in mhz, who cares?) so i want to know where you guys get this info about dell being horrible
Real life, bro. I can't really remember why they're atrocious, but they've got their quirks.
i can admit, the d620 and d630 were fairly crappy laptops with the nvidia gpu in them. the inspiron laptops havent been good since like 2001. but i also have real life experience. Tell me why they are atrocious.
Consumer level Dell is low quality. The idea is to make a machine of low parts, but that works just long enough to run out of warranty before dying and if non tech savvy consumer, they will just buy a new machine hopefully.
Enterprise level, Dell is much higher quality but at cheaper prices. This is the ONLY level in which Dell is good and should be noted as such.

It's mostly their customer service for me. Absolutely useless.
I've personally owned 4 Dell laptops and 1 Dell desktop, and at my various jobs I've had 2 Dell laptops and 3 Dell desktops, and I once managed a gaming center with about 55 Dell desktops. They're really not as bad as everyone says. You probably just hear a lot of complaints because they're one of the top selling brands so even if they are defective 1% of the time, that 1% is a lot more people than probably the majority of people who own Asus laptops.

ive heard their prosupport is awesome. idk though as ive never had to return one, home or work models have only died on me way after the warranty went out
Your experience is not representative of the experience of others.
Dell laptops have cheap, plastic builds that can't compare to the higher-quality builds of Lenovo or Asus or Sager. They have inefficient cooling designs that can't keep anything more powerful than basic home-use components cool. Many of them are blatantly overpriced for what components you're getting (contrary to what you believe), and the few that aren't can't game at all, because they're $300-400 home use computers.
There was even a line of laptops in 2006 or so that was widely known to have exploding batteries.
To be completely honest most people won't really notice much of these issues (apart from the exploding batteries ) but the reason we suggest against Dell is because quite simply, for the price, there are much better options. If you were looking at a Honda Civic, and for the same price there was also a Ferrari available, you wouldn't buy the Honda, would you?
Also, don't think we only "hate" on Dell. HP and several other big-name manufacturers have the same problems.

You're wasting your time. No one will listen. All you can do is laugh and parody, really, while they fuel their fuel and call anyone who does not fan the fire an apologist. Make the parody as obscure and convoluted as possible, so that they have good reason to misread it and you are the only one to see the hypocrisy. That said, I'll drop the sardonic guise for a moment:
Dell is no better than any other company. They are all cost-cutting aberrations. However, statements like "Sager has better build quality than Dell" make no sense, because: 1) Traditionally, one does not compare "build quality" of corporations. I would like to know how this is done; 2) (Assuming that the laptops are being compared) Traditionally, companies produce more than one line of laptops, which are made from different processes and materials, and these change frequently; 3) One can find or fabricate anecdotal evidence to support the opposite conclusion.
Similarly, "logic" and "reason" are nonsense, and these "logical explanations" are attempts to substantiate (emotional) stereotypes and convictions.
What are the first and last letters in "bluntness?"

Christoi's post, on first glance, seems fine.
stale fishes post actually has some good logic in it (more laptops sold = more complaints, vice versa. also excuse my grammar, havent adressed this yet but i wrote this at like 2 am or so. but you are right, i havent really gotten that good of logic except from stalephish. but you are right about the sort of fanboyism, my mom had a dell latitude d630 for many years and she was really happy with it. then she got a mac then started pushing out mindless crap towards me about it having better build quality and crap. funny thing is is that it actually has really crappy build quality and creaks xD
They have inefficient cooling designs that can't keep anything more powerful than basic home-use components cool.
Yes, from my experience, Dell laptops have very bad cooling. My mom's Dell Inspiron 5150 used to always over heat. To fix that, we took an old cooling rack and put it under the laptop as a stand and it hasn't over heated since.

never had overheating problems with my dell laptops. maybe its because all of them have been latitudes?

Don't really care to get into this whole ordeal to the fullest, just want to address the bold. Why do you think you do not generally compare build quality? If you are an informed consumer you will look into every facet of a product. As far as how it's done, do you think that it is completely forgone in reviews? Or that techs, who often also do sales, won't make a note of which products are poorly made and push for a slightly more expensive product that would offer higher commission? It certainly is easy considering that people want things that last. I used to have quite a knowledge of models and generations of certain laptops that were built well versus built with shoddy components, and this came from first hand experience from working on them, as well as reading plenty of reviews. You are right and things change, but at the consumer level, Dell has consistently lesser quality than other companies for similar prices. This is not always the case, but often it is, that is why I would suggest another company over Dell until I am more sure of the quality of the product. Dell is not bad, but there are often better options.
Probably, seeing that Latitudes are among the ones that Dell actually spend some effort in developing but also price higher than normal consumer laptops.
Either that or you haven't had any other computer to compare the heat with. Just because a computer doesn't overheat doesn't mean it has good cooling.
i only had an acer to compare it too (well i also had a toshiba but you know how those are in the heat department)

i have a friend irl who i have gotten every one of my dell laptops from. i dont think i have payed for a single laptop because they dont have quite as good quality as desktops, although that might change in the future as my latitude d610 is getting long in the tooth and xp is going out of support. however as you said their are good models and bad models. even if it was free i would reccomend against a latitude d600 anyday...they are the only dell laptops that ive seen that i can genuinely say are bad. they get so hot during casual web browsing it feels like its gonna explode (i own one and i have tried it with and without the battery and it still got super hot) but around that age was the dark age of computing that was saved by the athlon 64. imo no one would still be using pcs as much as they do without the athlon 64s. pentium 4s were so bad (oops getting off topic).
although i have a hard time recommending inspirons or any consumer laptop. consumer laptops are hit or miss.
if you dont need super ultra power get a business laptop. no ifs. no buts.
(great getting off topic again)

You have a business class model, latitudes can be run over by a car and still run.
This is why im trying to build my own pc. *facepalm*
I built my desktop too, i was just wondering why everyone was saying "avoid dell like the plague" and similar things such as my laptops from them were good pieces of hardware

At least 86% of what I say is always correct.

Four months old.
The HD 7730m in it died and one of the hinges cracked off.
I've used it literally 10 times.
