I figured that this section needs more than just computers, time for some technology. So I was having some debates with my father, and he believes that:
Adding dynamos to a completely electrically driven car will increase it's range. While I state that:
Energy may not increase in volume. The energy that is in the engine once the car starts is the energy that can be used. Creating electricity from electricity is just a waste of energy since it does absolutely nothing useful.
The thing is that he won't listen to my argument and keeps on insisting that more dynamos = more energy. Anybody has any idea what else I can say to convince him that the idea won't work?
I think a few hybrid cars already have this tech in them and it doesn't work terribly well.
The best electric cars at the moment use a small gasoline or diesel engine+a small array of solar panels on the roof to generate electricity for the cells/batteries. They can get upwards of 800-1,300 miles or more on ~5l of fuel (but they also cost upwards of $280,000).
As for his argument, he seems to have no idea how modern electric cars work.....
Use diesel engines and run on Bio-diesel. They last forever and to make bio-diesel all you need is used cooking oil.
Won't work.
Bio is not the end-all-be-all, and there is a far more involved process to it than "just cooking oil".
There is simply not enough out there in the world to support a city going full bio, let alone any more than that.
The only solutions at the moment are:
Hydrogen (which is pretty much going to be the replacement for gasoline/diesel engines at this rate once it gets cheaper, we should get there within 20 years, it's the most abundant thing on earth)
"Semi-hybrid" electric cars that use a gasoline or diesel generator

you think there would be enough with all the greasy food America eats.

This. Really. Currently we either switch over to hydrogen, though this requires a lot of rare metals from my understanding, but super efficient, or continue to develop petroleum.

It's barely enough to support the people using biofuel now.
Some cities actually take all of the used oil from restaurants to fuel public transport in exchange for a cut in the property tax (+1 to my city for doing this) and it still isn't enough.

true but why are we scared about using gasoline is it b/c of global warming if so that is a terrible excuse. The only fear of using gas is organic life inhaling it and stuff like that
hydrogen cells seems pretty cool and i thought oxygen or O2 was the most abundant thing on earth
i hope by the time i die there will be nuclear powered cars of something along the lines of safe energy that is extremely efficient
How the hell is global warming such a "terrible excuse"?
The effects of CO2 on the environment is usually highly exaggerated. As our understanding and ability to increase the fuel efficiency of cars and petroleum increase, it will become far less of a problem as well.

Climate change is reason enough on its own to quit using fossil fuels. But the world does not have an unlimited supply and the price will keep going up and that reduces the spending power of the lower classes. You also have the USA and other countries getting oil from theocratic and dictatorial governments that we would really be putting embargo's on.

Well no it's not that. It's that it is very expensive and taxing and we will run out of oil eventually. The reserves we are using now are expected to go dry within 50 years or so (using the non-biased estimates, most say within 10 years but that is, like the global warning, horribly exaggerated (not saying global warming isnt real, it is, but it's not as dire of a problem as people make it. The earth warms and cools itself constantly like this, it's only recently that we have been recording it)) so we need to find an alternative NOW. There is far too much of our world that relies on oil. Everything is affected by it. Food prices, furniture prices, pretty much anything you can buy's price is affected by it.

Hydrogen is the most abundant thing in the universe is what I meant to say. However, we have found ways to extract hydrogen from water and other things (which are getting cheaper and cheaper to do every day), which is something we will never run out of, as the byproduct from hydrogen cars is water, so what is being used is being put back.
i hope by the time i die there will be nuclear powered cars of something along the lines of safe energy that is extremely efficient
Nuclear isn't really the way to go for cars, however for mass-power production it is.
For cars you need something durable to the point where, if incinerated or in a car accident, isn't a pain to clean up/danger to people.
Hydrogen is extremely flammable, however, the way it is used and stored in some technologies that will hopefully be used in future cars lessens this to a point where it is no more dangerous (less so in fact) than gasoline.
Propane powered cars are another interesting topic, however, they haven't been gaining much ground.

As I said before, climate change from burning of fossil fuels is exaggerated so much. The temperature rises are far more from the natural climate change of the Earth. Even some extremely liberal figures know that it's far smarter to put money into the development of petroleum than to put money into large metal fans that produce far little energy. We'd run out of natural resources to make solar panels and wind mills before they could even catch up to petroleum. I also didn't realize Canada, Mexico, Alaska(which still has a ton of oil, which isnt beimind rolled due to environmentalists thinking that it is destroying the landscape, when it is actually a barren wasteland with hardly any life to begin with), Columbia, Nigeria, Russia, Iraq, Algeria, and Ecuador were all dictatorships. The worst is probably Saudi Arabia, which is an absolute monarchy, Kuwait being a constitutional one, and yes, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is a dictator, I'll give you that one. Our dependency on dictators for oil isn't as high as people like to think.
Studies by the oil companies showed that Climate change has had major human contributions to it. Solar panels and Wind Turbines help but we need Nuclear Power.
Getting any oil and giving money to one dictatorship is one too many.

Not really. They're at the wall they've always been at.
The model T got the same mileage per gallon of fuel as most modern cars do (~20-25MPG).
Seriously:

In 110 years all we've done is made them go faster at the cost of fuel efficiency.
Dynamos and electric engines, are, principally, the same thing.
Nah, we're good.

Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.

That fixes nothing even if there was enough you are still polluting and helping climate change.
I don't remember the exact models or years, but there were a number of cars in the early 20th century that got 40-50mpg.
