You know there is a thing called desktop Icons... They do the same thing...

I can't spell, don't shoot me for it! Computer: Intel i5 2500k (Not overclocked for now) 8GB DDR3, 60GB agility3 SSD, 1TB 7200rpm storage, HIS-AMD HD6870. 3 1080p Screens, and one 17 inch, running on the HD3000 and the 6870.
That would make the desktop cluttered. Also if you keep everything on the desktop why ***** about the startmenu getting changed.
My desktop is anything but cluttered. Then again I go insane with my number of monitors, and I prefer Icons to a clean desktop.
I am not mad about the start menu change, something I like about it is you can start typing to search, it is even more refined. I just dislike the emphasis on touch based input.

I like Windows 8; except for the stupid Explorer ribbon and Start Screen.
I don't like it; it gets annoys my OCD as it's so big. Why can't it be small and tidy like normal? I have to waste screen space just do I can see applications I don't use?
I generally use the Commonly Used applications area; not the file system.
Can you provide actual pictures that show the desktop version of Windows 8 saying "tap here"? I'm just curious because I haven't seen screenshots of anything touch related showing in text on the desktop version.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
I will get some in a couple hours. I saw it in the prerelease.

All I can see in this thread is people saying "Oh I don't really like x about Windows 8" and then Xaanos coming in and vehemently defending Win8, it's making me lol.
Maybe because I am one of the few people to have been running it on all my computers except for my Laptop that's running Linux.
Most of the time its just Windows 8 sucks or is a touch OS when its not.
Several of my friends hated it without looking at it when I got them to try it they changed their mind. Most of the hate comes from people who have not tried it or used it for a little in a VM and said I hated it and never touched it again.
I prefer 7, but only because I am used to the layout. Microsoft has kept this layout for ages (star button, icons, etc) and changing it seems weird. Granted, I probably will upgrade eventually, but after extensive use with a VM to get used to it. Xaanos, I trust your opinion, so I'll give Windows 8 a try in a VM soon if you say it is better.
I went the Microsoft Store on Sunday, talked to some of the employees there about things like software, and hardware, and had a really good conversation. I also asked them about how WIndows 8 would work on desktops. No, the first version of Windows 8(Windos 8 RT) to come out will not be the best. All you can do is run 1st party apps, play some games on Xbox live and earn achievements, and the Windows 8 style desktop is a side app. It works as a great tablet computer/Netbook, and is a very nice piece of tech, but not for a gamer. However, I did talk about Windows 8 Professional. Windows 8 professional, is a heavily upgraded version of Windows 8, that allows first, and third party apps, and in the System Preferences, and gives you the choice of Netbook, or Desktop interface. I for one will wait until 2013 for Windows 8 Pro, but the fact that Notch won't certify MC for Windows 8 is upsetting. Sure, Windows 8 RT isn't very open, but Windows 8 Pro is, and I hope he realizes that. If it comes to the point where PC gaming moves to Linux, I am open to switching as I used it for 2 years, but I hope people give it a chance first.

The first version is not Windows 8 rt they are releasing the mobile and PC version at the same time. The RTM can run any Win7 app there is no option for interface.

You realize the microsoft store people are just there to sell things, and don't actually know anything, correct?
They are in the same boat as apple store techs or best buy/geek squad employees. They work in sales, not in "knowing what I am talking about".
That's not completely true, but yes I understand what you are saying. I think Microsoft should maybe release another more desktop friendly build of Windows 8. Also, did anyone else know they were merging XBLA with the Windows 8 store? That was somewhat shocking, but does this mean they'll allow cross-play? Anyways, see you guys later.

How would they make a more desktop friendly option the RTM is desktop friendly.
No mouse and keyboard was found to be better by tests MS ran they will never allow cross play for this reason.

"Hey guys, wouldn't it be simple if we just added a start menu option so people that liked it wouldn't have to learn how to use the new start screen?"
"Nah, they'll get used to it and quit complaining- who cares about them anyways!"
Seriously, M$ needs to concede and give the option to use the start menu- it just makes the transition harder than it needs to be.

Most of my reasons are nitpicky and because I love the classic windows style that is gone now (no I'm not talking about the start menu/etc.).
Why tell me why give me an actual reasons why it sucks for desktop usage other then its for tablets.
