Whatever you do, don't buy anything from HP. Their laptops tend to run hotter than those from other manufacturers, and some of the recent ones have unfixed BIOS bugs that prevent OpenGL applications from running on the discrete GPU.
Lenovo is probably the best as far as reliability goes.

I personally would suggest something from Sager Notebooks. Just find the most expensive one on their website that you can afford, and make sure there's nothing you needed to change in the customization menu. if you do want to change something, see if the laptop one step cheaper has the same customization you want, because maybe then you can afford it with the customization.
but the cheapest sager with decent specs has no optical drive
