The Bulldozer is not the best of the best, but it's a decent chip for it's price range. If you like, I will run some benchmarks on it later, but so far from what I have seen, people have very little faith in it :/. But trust me, do not look down on a processor because of it's reviews. My laptop that I use for gaming quite often is using the AMD E2-350. It was shot down for gaming by reviews, but it actually plays some games pretty well.
And that's what I am doing here, so don't look down on me for my choice. I am one of the few nay-sayers who are willing to try their say at the Schrodinger's Cat's real answer. This is why I named it Solaris. Like the planet it was named from, the build's performance is just a mystery to everyone who believes the reviews.
Also, the rest of my parts have been ordered now. I am expected to be able to build on Tuesday. Perfect day for me seeing how I don't have work that day or wends-day. Wish me luck on absolutely no RMAs.
To the one above me... I think you are being a little harsh there buddy. Saying you would never buy something from another company because of performance is like saying you wouldn't buy something from another company who had a very high reputation for high quality goods, after receiving just ONE DOA item. I don't often get Intel based electronics simply because they have higher prices than I am often willing to pay.

the AMD E2-350 is an APU, designed specifically for laptops, so yes it will be fine, however we have shown even in games that take advantage of the extra threads (Civ 5, SCII) are absolutely thrashed by a 2500k, and no amount of OC will help it as you could just OC the 2500k and get more still, the G860 or an i3 2100 are fair matches to the 8120 or 8150 for gaming, the 2500k and i7 thrash it
I don't really care about it being the fastest you know... I am just giving it something people have not. A damn chance. And the way you are putting it, you are expecting me to only get 4 fps XD.

No one has ever said we hate it because its not the fastest. I don't need to buy a I3 to know its slower then an I5.
The 8150 is still a pretty **** deal.
However the 8120 is pretty good deal for a cheap workstation computer.
But this is still a gaming forum so people are going to look down on them pretty hard because compared to Intels CPUs for gaming they are more expensive and slower.
Mm... maybe it is maybe it's not. The most I am concerned with it is a work station build, and it's a gaming build ;3. To me... it will remain my baby. Because this would be the first time I didn't have a 500 dollar budget. But so far people who own it are happy with it for gaming. And I did buy the 8120, not the 8150.
Not paying extra for a cherry picked chip.

Why hello there sir... look into my eyes, and then... you shall see... the end. ~ Quote from Enderman.
I expect the major review sites won't get around to this until the release of Windows 8.
But it would be nice to have more information on how Microsoft has optimized for the BD arch Tomshardware did a small preview with a earlier build of it and saw some improvement.
So if you would be kind enough to maybe do some benchmarking of Windows 8 on BD that would be nice.
Sure... if you could direct me to a link where I can get a recent build of it... Windows webpage GUI is very... elusive. T_T
EDIT
I got it... mother of god this is going to take forever on my slow internet. Give me a link to the benchmarks you would like me to run.
I will try to keep the list low unless you honestly interested but this list should give a decent idea.
Just 1-2 games you have preferably modern games released in the past 3 years.
Handbrak benchmark just record some generic video of some game with fraps render it with h.264.
Luxrender http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/Benchmarks
I expect to see little gains in Luxrender and Handbreak
However I expect to see the larger gains in any less threaded program like games.
Just run them all once under 7 then again under 8 upload times and I can make fancy graphs out of them for my own reasons.

Durp, Alright. But I am using the Windows 8 First. OEM disk and all. I just don't feel like having to call Microsoft to reactivate.
So far my most Modern Games would be...
Tribes: Ascension
Deus Ex Machinima: Human Revelations
Skyrim
Skyrim and Deus Ex it is.
Unless you have Civilization 5. I know the AI is supposed to be well threaded and I have never seen anyone do a turn time comparison of an I5 and a Bulldozer cpu a benchmark in this would allow me to make basic comparisons.
No promises however, I am probably going to say screw it half way in. Not to mention you can't really say that my performance is truely legitimate. But if I do go with it, (I'd stop if the download doesn't finish within today) than I'd be honest about it. I am not expecting Windows to perform better with the Bulldozer, unless Windows decide to say "We will do the best we can!" like they did for the Intel "I" series. They started off horrible in windows xp, and became amazing in windows 7.
UPDATE:
I can not explain this any better... so... I shall deliver this message with the aid of memes.

That was with a very early version of Windows 8 and they only ran 2 tests I crave more information but they showed signs of hope.
Ok, my new computer is now finished. I am very disappointed.....
with yall. I did some test with it, and some of the benchmarks were true. But they only tested what the core was not. So I did my own "Stupidly ridiculous" benchmarks, which is constantly done by an average user of a multi-core system.
Benchmark 1: Multiprogram Stability: This is both CPU and ram dependent. Before opening any game, open as many programs as you can before playing any kind of game. Normally a typical user, especially hard core gamers will have some windows open in the background eatting up processes. Say winamp, any kind of internet radio, teamspeak, ventrillo. Just test the FPS loss
Benchmark 2: Copy and paste Internet Exorer's short cut across your entire screen, then open all of them at once.
Silliness aside. I think you have to actually try the processor yourself rather than listen to complaints. I actually like it. It feels faster than the I5 2500k I have used on the school computers, it doesn't choke with the amount of windows I normally have open on a daily basis. Hell I accidentally had three games running at once.
There are of course some things that the bulldozer didn't do as hot in as the I5 did... but that is only some things.
Also, give me another week or so for a paycheck. I don't feel like breaking my "Zero Balance" for a flash drive on windows 8. I was forced to get a WD Black because Fry's was all out of the Spinpoints. So far so good.
Well I'm glad you're satisfied with your build's performance. Makes me more confident that Piledriver will be quite successful. I'm still stuck with a Phenom II, but I would like to stick with AMD when I upgrade, so Piledriver should be a good upgrade.
Will you be posting any pics? I would like to see how it turned out.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
Your school computers have 2500K? Where do you goto a private school?

No, actually a public highschool in texas. It's almost like a tech school in a sense. You have your core classes and a metric f*ck ton of electives to choose from, as well as college courses. The Graphics and Engineering labs have I5s 2500k with Nvidia Quadro. Seems nice, but they only have 8 gigs of ram and we constantly run out of memory still. I know what's in them, I was one of the Technology Students who put them together. It was a PAIN.
I don't like Private Schools, and I don't like most of the kids that goes to them.
Now that's just silly. While you may be happy with your new setup, that's no need to make unrealistic situations just to see how well your system holds up (let's be honest, how often are you going to have all of your programs simultaneously open?).
;3 Exactly my point. How often are you going to calculate PI?
