I am buying a new computer, and since these two look the same spec wise, I dunno which laptop to chose and which bells and whistles to add. My budget is two thousand US Dollars.
These are the computers, please tell me what to add to give me the best performance for my buck:
You put forth 2 computers. 1 probably has the worst specs for the price of a laptop and one probably has the best.
Go with the Sager. There is no question about it.

I'm taking that as sarcasm but if it isn't then I will have to teach you a lesson about not telling people to spend $1000 on something you don't even know about. Also, I would need to lecture you about drugs because if you are serious you must've snorted some crazy sh*t.

NOW FOAR THE REAL QUESTION: Which options give me the fastest and awesomest Sager 2000 USD can buy?
Do you need a 17.3" screen? Depending on what size screen you would prefer, just take either of the most expensive models and change the graphics card to a GTX 680M. Leave everything else the same.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
Try to get 16 GBs of ram, a SSD for OS and a gtx 675m then it should be able to do everything you want it to.
16GB of ram is useless unless he plans on doing high end 3d modeling and video editing, SSD may be a valid point if he wishes to spend a bit more, 675M is really overkill for his plans though

yes but I'm thinking about him keeping it for a longer time, then having to upgrade it later on.

An AlienwareI am torn between the two because everyone recommends the Sager, but Pcworld says the Alienware is better. Now the question is, which options give me the fastest and awesomest Sager 2000 USD can buy.

You mean a toyato in a Ferrari design?
DDR4 will be out sometime next year, so really no point in getting more, we're just now starting to have games that can use up to 4GB, let alone 8

IIRC, the only difference between DDR/DDR2/DDR3 is that the DDR3 is more stable at higher frequencies (Hz), and runs at higher GHz.
