I have been looking around for a while to see if I could find a simple part list that would be able to run minecraft well but many of them were out of my price range (or at least my imaginary price range, I am very frugal) so I decided just to make a build list by myself but since I don't really have tons of experience with hardware so I am not sure how well this would run something like minecraft.
If there is something in there that would not be powerful enough to run minecraft, or even if there is a simple upgrade that would make the computer able to at least reasonably run more intensive games I would like it if you posted what could be improved, since the build already has Windows 7 in the cost and I have more room before I hit the max of what I would want to spend (no more than $400)

I did order the list by cheap parts but I based it off of my desktop that runs minecraft pretty well, I am all for rebates so that means the build you put is actually still 40 dollars under my budget, but if you REALLY recommend going even higher I would be willing to do that.

I dunno, to me it's just criminal that people try and build computers for 200-300 bucks. Fricken HP's and Dell's with junk in them cost more than that.
Just wondering, but why a $60 case and a $90 HDD? I'm pretty sure you could drop the price quite a bit...
Says 50 to me. What case would you suggest? Everything under that is garbage, we've made a pretty good consensus even the cooler master Elite is terrible. For the same price rage you could get an NZXT source or something if you'd prefer.
HD says 85 to me, a barracuda 500gb is about 75, but spinpoints are awesome. He could switch to that if he prefers, hard drives are stupid expensive right now.
I'm not gonna suggest he get a 65 dollar 250 GB either, that's a waste of money.
I would agree about the Elite series, I have a 430 myself. The Merc Alpha I posted however is surprising good for the price, with cable management options and decent airflow.
It's not like the case I picked is permanent, I've never had one of those so I honestly couldn't comment on how good they are, if he wants one instead it's as simple as picking it in the shopping cart. I just didn't feel comfortable recommending anything else at current.
I would agree that $60 for 250GB may seem overpriced, but do note that half the price won't give half the capacity. It's mainly the platters that change, so it's hard to get cheap, decent capacity drives. Hard to say though, if the OP could stretch for another $30, it may be worth upgrading other parts too.
Yeah I know the price scales linearly, it's just that: A. 250 GB is pretty low to me, I use about a 450 GB HD and it's come close to full a few times. Sure you can get away with 250 but if you're gonna buy a hard drive you may as well try and get the best bang for your buck out of it. Spinpoint F3's are very good, I only recommend Barracuda's at the 1 GB mark because they're -so cheap-.
However the main reason was because the A4 3400m is quite a weak APU, the intergrated 6410D isn't great, CPU performance isn't great either. For that budget, it may also be worth keeping such things in mind other than just upgradability and such.
I'll be honest that thing has pretty much no upgrade path, if you want a new CPU you're replacing the motherboard. Thing is that CPU in essence is absurdly cheap. It's a video card and a CPU for the same price as an Athlon roughly. It's a pretty crazy price/power combo.

Still I think that's pretty impressive for the money, the only reason it's bad for the cost is the motherboard has no upgrade path. With people lowballing their computer's this much, I have little hope for them upgrading any time soon.
How about getting an AMD A8-3850 CPU, it's 2.9GHz with Quad-Core, instead of the CPU with the build you suggested earlier Satharis, and what motherboard would you suggest getting for future upgrades?

What's your top end budget? Honestly if you can go any higher I'd get an Intel build. The thing is FM1 motherboards are pretty much only for Llano APU's, the most you could do is get a better one, and even their best ones are not even in the same ballpark as an Intel CPU(or even a Bulldozer FX one.)
Ok, I think I will just get it with a motherboard and an Intel CPU, thanks!
EDIT: I changed the Motherboard to a Micro ATX with a LGA1156 Socket and and an Intel i3 CPU, here is the list now http://pcpartpicker.com/p/5ruq
I'd recommend an LGA1155 CPU over 1156 at any time and price point.
The latest generation of i3 processors is cutting edge while hardly being more expensive.

What's the MAXIMUM you could stretch your budget to?
That's why I'm asking, he keeps changing it, first it was 400 then it was "maybe kinda 450" then he's acting like it's 500 or something.
I need a number.
