I just built a new budget gaming computer, and since Windows 7 is over $100, it wasn't really in my budget so I was ready to use my old Vista copy until I saved enough up to get 7. My dad was on a business trip this past week and talked to some of the coworkers he worked with and they said that most of them use a website called Onlinekey.org. He went their and ordered a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate and Office 2010 for $45. They sent him the product key for each and said that the backup disk for Windows 7 would be shipped to us. The download link that they sent us does not work, and it seems like their website doesn't work now either. Could someone tell me if this website was a scam? The thing is he had read reviews of the site dating back to 2009 saying that people were happy with the site and now the site doesn't work, the day he gets home. I want to know if there's a place where I could download Windows 7 to see if the code is even valid. Please help
Okay I haven't read every post except the first few: I AM NOT TRYING TO PIRATE. I wanted to know if you already have a code, if there is a place where you legally download it.
EDIT: Okay, now I've read all the posts. I wanted to get the OEM edition originally, but my dad said that only people who build computers to resell them are allowed to buy and use OEM copies. On top of that I heard that OEM editions don't get support through Microsoft, but by the people who built your computer. I already have Vista 32 bit, so could I just get an upgrade version to go to Windows 7 64 bit?

You will get support from Microsoft regardless of whether it's an OEM or the full version, the only difference is that the OEM version is tied to the motherboard.

That's the other thing I heard: is that OEM will only work with the first computer it was installed on. This isn't exactly true, because we got my Gateway Vista reinstall disk to install Vista on my new computer. The only thing I think would have helped was the fact that I was using the same HDD, even though I wiped it.

It just means you can't swap out motherboards without reinstalling.
XP is horses**t due to the fact that it's over 10 years old at this point.
Think of it like this, was anyone using MS-DOS 5 in 2001 as their primary operating system, 10 years after it was released? No.
For gaming it's even worse because it only supports games running DX9, which many games are dropping support for (Just Cause 2 for instance will not run on XP because it requires DX10).
Just because it uses less RAM means nothing. RAM is absurdly, and I do mean absurdly cheap ($5 per 1GB), so there is no reason to worry about it.
The strange thing about the whole "it uses less RAM" argument is why you would want all your RAM sitting there un-used anyway. Using RAM is great, my RAM is faster than my HDD so if Windows wants to cache a bunch of stuff or use it to index my files in the background then that's great, I didn't buy all this RAM for it to not be used.
If there's issues with resource management that cause Windows to hog RAM when it was needed by other processes I'm more inclined to listen, but most of these complaints aren't based on actual facts or knowledge of how the system works.
Exactly, unused RAM is wasted RAM. Complaining about amount of RAM used should have died with Vista.
Why would you pay for one that's $45 when you can get it for $100? It's kinda dumb you got it off a random site and those reviews could just be the site makers to lure you in.
Using Windows XP will do you more good than Vista, so just wait until you can buy 7 from a LEGITIMATE source.
false, XP dosent support newer versions of directX
i use XP, and i have yet to find a game that doesnt work well on it.
this, that site sounds incredibly fishy to me, buying windows 7 keys just seems.... off putting

Project RedShift
Windows XP doesn't support directX 11.

Have you tried Just Cause 2?
