The thing is MegaUpload sets a precedent. If they can be held responsible for user content even if they cooperate with DCMAs and the like, what does that bode for other sites that are based around user-generated content? Keep in mind, user-generated content and websites represents a large chunk, if not even the majority of content on the internet.
Also looks like these sites are down, RIAA's site looks to be formatted when I finally got through it was "Index of '\'".

99% of megaupload's traffic was legitimate. This entire thing reeks of BS.
Oh and it's great to know that the justice department and FBI are under complete control BY THE ****ING ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY.
(Also nitpicking, but you really should not give Gawker sites page views. Kotaku and Gizmodo especially.)
Yeah those sites are mentioned in the Giz article, and its in my FB newsfeed. I find myself reading giz less and less due to them basically selling out. My uncle is buddys with some of the editors and they dont like the knew GIz very much either.
The amount of sheer numbers needed to pull this off is staggering though.
DDOSing one site? Yeah, okay, a script kiddie had a bad day.
But 5-6+ at the same time? That's incredible.
Its all being organized in IRC. Now if these people are smart (which a decent amount are) they will be behind VPNs or VPS's or things of the sort. But to have that sheer of a number of sites coming down I'm sure people are going off there homes.

I wonder what goodies we'll get.

The cannon is decentralized and a volunteer program, so volunteers+hijacked servers+infected machines is a fairly enormous botnet.
ROFL, porn, and lots of it... Now I wouldn't even look at that dump page.
Edit about above post:
Lol, I probably know a few people helping with their botnets in this. All I can say at this point is, how many people can the government make disappear without anyone noticing?

ProTip: We warn you, if you ARE an Anon participating in today's DDoS attacks vs. various SOPA supporters, please take safety precautions
Edit: Ment to also say, looks like they are telling everyone to take precautions such as VPNs

Considering most people won't (as per usual with LOIC attacks) this is a good warning to heed. They will go after whoever they can for this when they do.
I'm fairly certain, that if PIPA does pass in it's current state, pretty much every American Govt. website will be DDoS'd into the ground.
I think their sites being DDOS'd would be the LEAST of their concerns after pissing off every single script kiddie, hacker, and person with the LOIC at the same time.
This is pretty much the worst way to try to get a political message across - it's equivalent to terrorism, and it only strengthens the resolve of the supporters of SOPA. People who think they can 'force' governments to back down using these sorts of tactics really need to wake the **** up, they are doing more harm than good.
You never really know. While I agree it's barbaric, what else do you suggest they/we do?

Yes, it is slightly forceful, but have you not seen what small revolutions do? Imagine if it does pass, this was 5,600 people imagine when it is half the internet? This is the internet equivalent of a Militia flexing it's muscles and showing it can defend itself.
Dear God...
Please don't let PIPA/SOPA pass. I like my internet the way it is.
Also, I don't want
WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

I wouldn't call it terrorism. More like civil disobedience.
The fact is, the vast majority of U.S citizens, once properly informed, would not want this bill to pass. The government is supposed to represent the interests of those people, not the interests of private companies. The fact that the bill has gotten as far as it has is evidence that somehow, the interests of a few private companies have managed to override the interests of those people the government represents. If something is unsettling about the entire thing it isn't necessarily the content of SOPA but rather the fact that it got as far as it did to require a presidential veto at all.

I mean, this whole thing, SOPA, PIPA, do they really want to **** off all the hackers/script kiddies at once?

This is only the public Anonymous imagine what all the splinter-cell and low profile groups will do now.
injected, Hijacked, defaced, senator's computers will be taken over, it won't be pretty.

Voting doesn't matter, writing letters doesn't matter, phone calls don't matter, voicing your opinion doesn't matter.
What legitimate way is left?
I think of this less as an attack and more as backlash from there literally being no options left.

Strength though unity,
Unity though faith.
