No do not buy. The processor is overpriced for what you want (I'd assume just gaming+ web browsing+ movies). You want an i5 2500K, or i5 2400 if you don't need to overclock. If, however, you need an i7 (for hyperthreading), you want a 2600 or 2600K (k is overclockable). This would mean, though, that the MoBo would be incompatible- you have to get a Sandy Bridge one.

You know that he's paying $5,000+ for it, so I don't think he cares.
It won't run after a year anyway, those things have the worst cooling.
That thing will be a extremely loud space heater if he doesn't get a good water cooling system on it. Can tell the guy has more money then brains if he can't even overclock it himself.

It's Alienware, of course it doesn't have good cooling.

Quit life.
This. If it's correct, then your computer is garbage.
No exceptions.

If all he is doing is gaming he doesn't even need an i7, he could get an i5 2500K and perform about equally with both those CPUs.
Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
Hope you got liquid cooling for that CPU, 990x gets hot!

Is it Tri-Channel memory? Either way, 1333 MHz is a tad low, if its high end memory, go for 1600 MHz.
Who downloads that anymore with the internet the way it is.
That's what peerblock is for. :tongue.gif:
