Hello my name is genclone and I'm relatively new to this thread :3, well not entirely new as I've known about it for quite awhile now and been sort of lurking. I haven't really found the incentive to post anything as I really didn't have much to contribute to the conversation. I've been looking to get more involved in the Furry Community and considering some recent and rather unsettling events I figureed it was finally an opportune time to actually post something, Or in others words, Haiii :3.
Hi, welcome! There's not really any rules or anything about what to contribute so long as it's furry-related and safe for work. I think. Art, discussion, whatever. I know exactly what you mean about lurking though, unless there's an actual topic going or something, I don't know what to talk about usually.
I'm eagerly awaiting the layout changes so I can make my labcoat look really nice and it becomes some much easier to stay true to my Anthro Fox Heritage (Haven't been able to add the tail as it really conflicts with detail D=)
The new skins are really going to help with things like tails, I agree. They'll actually appear somewhat distinct from the body, it's gonna be cool. There's always that More Player Models mod that has actual anthro/furry models in it, but modding MC is a pain in the ass nowadays, not to mention that other players need to have the mod to be able to see the custom models.
:Attention all! A glimpse my dark(er)/emo side: Even if it may not be the same for you, I know the feeling, Seth, all too well. I trust no one, and scarcely, even myself. I have no friends. No one to lean on, or hold onto, or laugh with. I've never had anyone. Never.
I know that feeling too. Social anxiety combined with lots of bad experiences with people through the years makes it really difficult to talk to people, even online. I guess a forum situation is relatively easy because it's got a lot of other people chatting and it's easier to mingle and stuff, but personal interaction is really hard.
Oh, I forgot to post art. I don't really have all that much worth sharing lately, been kinda art blocked the past couple weeks.

I have pretty awesome writing skill which is technically a form of art but when I write I don't usually include more then one anthro race (Gots to have dem Anthro Foxes) and I don't think most people would be interested in literature as opposed to Furry Pictures unless you count web comics but in all fairness that's technically a combination of the two.

I actually find that people really confuse modding mc to be hard (Assuming you are using the term modding to refer to installing mods but the same statement applies vice versa) in all fairness its actually gotten easier since 1.6. My explanation of mods and modding Minecraft:
The first thing to really know about installing mods is quite plainly how mods were installed prior to Minecraft Forge and Modloader, Back then mods had to be installed directly into the MInecraft.jar basically this needs to happen because if you put those files anywhere else MInecraft would read them and the mod won't actually be installed.
Thankfully the wonders of forge allow us to put mods source files (Compiled in .zip and .jar files) into a mods folder from there Forge will automatically handle installing the mod into the Minecraft.jar. Forge also provides modders with a very useful api and other code tidbits and such hat modders have used in their mods (Hence Mods becoming Forge dependent) and thats really only the surface of what forge does but for the purpose of installing mods all you need to know is how forge interacts with the mods folder (Which it will create on installation(Assuming that you haven't used forge in the past))
Another important note about mods is the difference between client side and server side, Client Side mods are typically visual only (only consisting of GUI and algorithms for interrupting data received from servers) Client side mods run only on your game client and as opposed to server side mods you can connect to any and all vanilla servers while using client side mods (Most Servers have plugins for detecting X-ray mods however). Server side mods run the the sever side of Minecraft (Such Great wording) most mods are server side (Meaning they must be installed on both the client and the server) because most mods add content in the way of new items, blocks, mobs, ect. Basically if you tried to connect to a server with server side mods and then went on to craft an item only found in the mod not vannila it would cause your game client to de-sync with the server and you will immediately get disconnected and in most cases will also have crashed your game. Its hard for me to explain but generally just use the rule of thumb, If a mod only interrupts data it will have already received from a server then it will cause no conflicts while a mod that tries to send data to a server such data that the server does not recognize then it causes the server to become confused and lest it crash it kicks you reverting your player data to a state before de-syncing (I could be completely wrong but this is more or less the general concept).
Second one should of course run the installer (DO NOT set it to extract keep it to just install, DO NOT attempt to install server files)
Next one check to insure all their mods are updated to the version of Minecraft you are trying to play on (Same goes for the forge installer) after doing so place any mods you wish to install into your mods folder. Keep in mind the difference between client and server side mods if you intend to go on multiplayer servers with the mods installed.
Finally set your launcher profile to Forge (It will have the version after it) and launch the game.
Download any mods you wish to use with the Magic Launcher (Be sure they are of the right version(Magic launcher will warn you if the mod is incompatible but it helps to be read before hand))
Run the Magic Launcher and click on Setup this will open its own window which where you can configure settings and load mods very easily (Be sure to click OK when exiting the setup window or the changes will be lost)
Many mods require forge to run you should be sure to use the automatic forge installer to extract the forge version zip and then add that zip into the build like any other mod.
It is worth noting that magic launcher is very easy and effective for play with lots of mods installed.
*Out if nowhere* I'M BACK after a little over two years ^-^ And I can't believe you're still here Lord_Dominic. Anyways, I just came back to this thread because I wanted to pinpoint the day I personally decided to be a part of the Furry Fandom.~
And that my friends, was minecraft_master78 with the random video post.
All applaud, his first post ever, right above this one.
Made an account, and for his grand entrance; that.
Anyways, emoclew, minecraft_master, and I feel bad for it, but I have to say, that is a very unoriginal name. A bit messed up that your first post was to promote your new channel. I mean, how many social network accounts did you make just now to promote your first video?? And if you wanted to pull more people from the furry fandom, you could have gone to an actual furry forum like furnation or something, and you couold have put a description or at least something like, 'Hey guys, I'm new here, but I made this video you might like...'
But, emoclew to the thread, and good luck with that channel. I left a like to show support (because I am so supportive )
Also, welcome back, Arcticfox, I believe I have not had the pleasure to meet you here.
I Agree I simply just don't click on links unless I see some text explaining them, random links often lead to viruses or unwanted sites in the battle of risk vrs reward there simply isn't enough data to warrant clicking on a link that just sits there with no explanation, too random for me. Also I think he would have had better success if he posted here a few times introduces himself before posting a link such would build credibility.
Anyway that said, I have a question: I'm struggling to understand a rough concept I've seen games with just Anthro characters receive negativity, I've also seen games with Anthro characters and Humans get mild to immense negativity, and seen games with no Anthro characters receive the mild remark but rarely negativity in general as they typically fail to attract attention from other Furries. My Question is how you guys (and girls) view games that include Humans and Anthro Characters vrs games that include just Anthro Characters. This information is helpful to me as a approach a critical decision in development of my game which I wan't to have Anthro Characters in it but I don't wan't to drive away the general public for sake of not having Humans in the game.
Really it depends on the story behind your world that the game takes place in. Think about it's history, think about the conflicts, and most importantly think about what you want to see become of this game.
How your game may be received should not matter, and if it does, you should not be making any such thing. Have a vision in your head, have a dream, and keep it in mind and work towards it. A creator takes no pride in a creation that is not worth their love. You have to love it before anyone else can.

In some cases it doesn't entirely matter how a game is received and that would be all well and good butt.... Games especially large ones can take up to a year to two years sometimes 3 to develop in my case it will take roughly a year and have a projected funding goal in the thousands which in hindsight isn't to bad since I'm doing all the code myself for free and I'll probably be making some of the simpler models in blender. But still thousands of dollars I have not so a kickstarter I do need and if people view the game negatively it won't get funding which would stretch its development out even longer and maybe even make the game fail without the much needed 3d models, and textures and shaders.

Personally I've never seen a game that's received mainly negative feedback solely for being anthro; the ones I've seen fail have all been badly made/half attempts.
much needed 3d models, and textures and shaders.
Also just a tip from a fellow game developer/programmer; start small. You seem to be aiming a bit too high and also seem to be relying on a kickstarter for the aforesaid models/textures/etc. A kickstarter won't be successful unless you start it already having something worthwhile to show (which by the sounds of it; you won't).
Also guys you may want to read this: http://redd.it/1xc4j9
(Sums up my view on several things about the fandom)

I'm not actually relying on a kick starter its just one of the ways I'm looking into for possible funding in the future but I have no plans of ever starting one until the game reached beta or at least alpha II so I have somthing to show for. And in all fairness I probably am aiming a bit high considering I'm working alone but I have a few friends who I might be pulling into the project pretty soon. As it stands its more of an accumulative development project I work on it whenever I can (Which is pretty much all the time) and I've been using some sample assets provided by the Unity Game Engine so I move my project along but again your probably right At some point I'm probably just going to have to move to something smaller.
Also I agree with your Reddit post completely I have been openly furry since I found out about the fandom and seen no discrimination, truth be told I was surprised when I even learned that there supposedly was discrimination against furries. I think people over-exaggerate anti-Furry cases because I have not heard of any instance were discrimination goes beyond a small remark based on a bias that is quickly brought down.
Well, rest assured, the furry fandom is pretty big and growing. And let's be honest, how many people, really, would hate your game because there are furry races in it? Few actually know what the fandom is, and fewer still hate it, because of stereotypes, and even if they do hate it, what can they do, it's just one hateful man, who only has as much meaning to you as you give them. Even so, there are no stereotypes going around like they used to, and many people in the media are getting into the fandom, there are tons of movies, tv shows, games, books, comics, and stuff that have furry characters, and they are fairly popular. Take Skyrim for example, it has the Khajiit, which is a furry race and the game is very popular, not at all affected by a hatred for furries. Antilia has only furries, and it's doing just fine, so I think you are over reacting. Just. Calm. Down.
Like I said, you need to develop your game's history first. If there are furries only, or humans too, etc., you have to have a reason why they are there. You have to think about how your world developed, and what exactly is going on in the game. There are over 7 billion people in this world (f***); what ever you do, you will be supported, but only if you respect the game yourself. Stop trying to please people, and they will appreciate that and respect you. As I said before, 'Have a vision in your head, have a dream, and keep it in mind and work towards it. A creator takes no pride in a creation that is not worth their love. You have to love it before anyone else can.'
Nice profile pic by the way, Portadiam, I fan!
Oh, and guys, read the reddit post.
About Minecraft mod stuff: Having played since Alpha, I know modding is a pain. Then I found Magic Launcher a while back (freaking LOVE it), and all I really use is Optifine anyways. For whatever reason, Magic Launcher didn't like Forge a few versions ago but this is going off-topic so I'll stop rambling about that stuff.
The issue with the more player models thing would be getting people to install it so everyone could see the anthro models properly. From what I understand there's no server-side version, and for various reasons people can't run/figure out Forge, or can't be bothered to install mods for whatever reason.
It would be nice if, in the future, they would support more model types natively.
*Out if nowhere* I'M BACK after a little over two years ^-^ And I can't believe you're still here Lord_Dominic. Anyways, I just came back to this thread because I wanted to pinpoint the day I personally decided to be a part of the Furry Fandom.~
Yep, I'm still here... kinda... lurking... I need to either get active here or get a life.

"Emoclew" sounds like it should be a furry name. Like for a really bad Warrior Cats furry or something. Like "Emoclaw" but messed up. This could make a good joke character now that I think about it...
And yeah, people making accounts to promote things and they don't even bother to type up any sort of intro or anything. I get that enough on DeviantArt, so by default I just ignore any unexplained link dropped somewhere. Sorry, guy.

Oddly enough, I don't think games get panned just for having anthros in them. I mean, even if you're not a furry, anthros are still just basic fantasy and cartoon stuff and they don't bother people. You might have seen negativity directed towards games that are obviously geared towards furries (like those weird MMOs) and of course people aren't going to want anything to do with that sort of stuff unless it actually interests them (tl;dr no mass appeal, too niche).
I'd say include anthros and humans. Lots of fantasy games/shows/whatever do this, it really does work. A mixed party of anthro and human might help too, or the option to select races. Think about giving various races different abilities and stuff, when I think about that sort of stuff I generally want humans to be more versatile and have broader variety of skills (and maybe better intelligence stats or require less xp/skill points/whatever for some skills) to compensate for some anthro races being stronger physically, or faster, or having sharper senses, or whatever.
Also, as Portadiam said, start small. You can always expand later, or make a sort of demo/beta thing for practice before going all in.
Also guys you may want to read this: http://redd.it/1xc4j9 (Sums up my view on several things about the fandom)
That post. All my THIS.
I'm totally up for a discussion on the topic if anyone else is. It seems like a lot of the problems that furries have now do come from the way they act and it creates a sort of vicious cycle. They just take something that's supposed to be fun WAAAAY too seriously.

As I said on a Reddit comment there: "The only place where I've ever seen furry hate is in anecdotes at places like this.".
I personally have never 'come out' as being a furry because I was never hiding it in the first place. I've never told anyone that I'm furry but they've all see my desktop and phone wallpapers and the art I've browsed. I'm not sure if it is a result of me not making a big deal about being furry or not but I've never received any kind of hate about it. I've been bullied many times but being a furry has never been one of the reasons.
I can see how some people can be rejected for being a furry but that would probably hardly ever happen so I don't quite see what all the 'no one must ever know' fuss is all about.
The only people I've met that actually know what a furry is ARE Furries and when I explain what a furry is to other people they really don't care that much. While I admit I've never gone to a public place wearing a furry t-shirt or partial fursuit I can't imagine any one taking offense to it if I did. I once wore a patriots shirt to a school completely for the broncos and not one person said a thing. I feel people are more tolerant and understanding these days and anyone else is really just ignorant or mis-informed.
Yeah same here. I think it's that no one is really aware that it's a fandom. I mean, I have talked about and showed my comic to many people I go to school with and family and no one really freaked out, like, 'OMG you're a furry! Die/That's cool!' I have only know one person that knew what the fandom was... Kinda... he got the name wrong thinking it was 'fuzzies' (??????WTF??????). He laughed and that was it, never really came up again.
I've gotta say, there is nothing to be afraid of with 'openly' being a furry. Only if you take it to a weird level or are demanding attention as a furry is when you might get some negative reactions, but that's normal. People that take things to a weird level are generally shunned and same with the ones that demand attention.
Well, anyways, I am playing with some different styles of trees, and... well I'll put it in a spoiler.
I changed up my colouring style a little by the way, going on a gradient colour shade technique (something like that), it should produce better quality images in the future.

That post. All my THIS.
I'm totally up for a discussion on the topic if anyone else is. It seems like a lot of the problems that furries have now do come from the way they act and it creates a sort of vicious cycle. They just take something that's supposed to be fun WAAAAY too seriously.
I agree.
I've gotta say, there is nothing to be afraid of with 'openly' being a furry. Only if you take it to a weird level or are demanding attention as a furry is when you might get some negative reactions, but that's normal. People that take things to a weird level are generally shunned and same with the ones that demand attention.
