Seriously this games hate is everywhere. I played the beta a few weeks ago and fell in love. Yeah it was bugging at points.......
But overall, its probably the best MMO i ever played.
It felt like a good Elder scrolls game, but just in MMO form.
Review
Graphics and sound: 5/5 Great for MMO. I would even compare to skyrim (its a little more comical though.)
Combat: 4/5 Not the twitchy wow combat. Its real time. I would give it a 3/5 but they tweaked all animations and its feels more fluent. It had me immersed.
PvP: 5/5 You wanna zerg? You can. You wanna go solo and survive? Sure. Small groups? Okay why not? Their is always something to do and attacking castles are epic.
PvE: 4/5 Good amount of things to do. Dark anchors, dark "rifts" (whatever they are called), dungeons, public dungeons. Plenty fun for a group.
Immersion and exploration: 5/5 Rewards you for exploring. The quest have you caring about those around you. I was shocked, in a good way. The rewards for exploring are actually worth it. From chest, to quest. Go out and explore!
Crafting: 4/5 Its deep. Love how you can make different styles and how much it feels like skyrim.
TOTAL:
27 out of 30. 27/30*100=90%
That equals an A. Great but not exactly groundbreaking.
Notes: Play this game like its own game. Not like skyrim, nor like any other MMO. And explore!
Personally, I hate it, It's just a generic MMO with the franchise slapped on top. I'm not a big fan of MMO's to start with, and I was wanting something more like Skyrim multiplayer.
As stated it follows the standard outdated MMORPG concept and does not try to get beyond that but instead wrap it with Elder Scrolls lore.
On top of that it uses a overly exploitable business model which in absolutely no scenario is justifiable today that being of course a subscription with microtransactions and two separate versions of the game.
If Zenimax instead went towards a Skyrim co-op (2-6 player) game I would have purchased it immediately but sadly that is not the case.
Elder Scrolls Online will go free to play by the end of june just like every other MMORPG that has released that tried to be WoW 2.0 but failed miserably
I can't get the game because of the poor business model they've set up. 1: Initial game purchase 2: Subscription fee 3: Microtransactions I'd go broke!
This and also it's still an MMO.
I see no appeal to MMO's. They feel barely more fun than working with their amazing animations, riveting combat systems and large open spaces positively FILLED with exciting things that aren't fetch quests to do (no sarcasm there guys, srsly). Only thing I like about MMO's are the social side of things and that leaves 2 things I actually like about ESO.
1. people, always like talking to people when playing games or being social in one way or another.
2. The world, although empty I do like the look of the world and I'm quite a big fan of elder scrolls lore so it's interesting to explore some of the places that we've only heard about until now.
Would be a third for lore which probably would be prevalent throughout the game but it's being treated as non-canon and has already messed with a few dates and other game things in order to make the game more... playable.

I dont know how you can say its generic. Generic is rift. This is not a rift.
Because it is generic MMO crap with a couple bells and whistles tacked on to entice people. It'll go FTP fairly quickly because the population will plummet after a couple months and then anyone who stayed will feel jaded because of the money they put into it already. It's doomed.

Did you get past level 10?
Rift tried something new, that being dynamic quests. Which if anything is the future of MMOs. Generic is anything following the Everquest/WoW formula of fetch, find, follow and of course fight. From the same NPC's with no or very little variation. This makes the world very empty and bland.
Guild Wars 2 also tried something new and attempted too make it more PvP focus rather then PvE both still decent enough to justify its initial price. Aion made the guild and political system widespread due to its grind the standard korean game had that was sadly never really experienced and talked about.
TESO is not anything special if anything I would say its a good alternative and freshly updated version of WoW but because of its price hilarious price tag that it gets a big fat "NO!"
Besides the fact that MMOs have never quite been my genre (although I must admit, guiltily, that I find Maplestory somewhat enjoyable...), ESO feels like another generic MMO, and the old-era subscription fee for what is not an exceptional game, in addition to the Imperial addition nonsense, make me extremely wary.
It doesn't help that I found the beta extremely buggy and unfinished, though I realize that most betas are like that. The extreme success of the Titanfall beta has probably increased my expectations for betas to be unrealistically high.
Their business model is certainly a turn off to many but I can see Bethesda pulling it off only if the game manage to deliver an awesome social experience that is the essential ingredient needed to be a successful MMO.
Whether it can deliver that experience however, is up to the players and how many would be willing to jump into that investment by going face first into the one time payment, subscriptions and micro-transactions. Sadly though, those fees mentioned is already a tough hurdle to go through and not to mention how the imperial class bonus which is purchasable through micro-transactions simply disrespect the lore and other players that choose not to buy it.
As much as I'd love to travel around the land of Skyrim with my lizard man Admiral_C0ckburn, I'm not really willing to pay 15 bucks a month for that experience, and I doubt a lot of people will either.
I found the controls very numb and unresponsive. I press a button and don't get a result until about a second later, sometimes I didn't get a result, it was naturally like that and not caused by lag. I tried playing on my brothers computer, same thing. I also encountered a game breaking bug and couldn't go any farther.
I would have still bought it if it weren't so expensive.

Wow I just read up on that and it's crazy. In order to freely pick your alliance or play as imperial you have to pay extra cash? This game is already a joke, an embarrassment to the series.
Being a person who doesn't have the greatest taste for RPGs (I do like some MMORPGs) I must say ESO was pretty good. Although like mentioned, the monthly payment, micro-transactions (if they are there?)
I really do wish more MMORPGs followed the Entropia Universe approach.
Give the players the chance to deposit AND withdraw money from the game.
Players can play for free and is no different to a paying user. Except, the way they get in-game currency is A LOT harder. Requiring them to do missions or "sweat" mobs for the little pay (which has to be traded by users of course) which will usually get them 1PED (In game currency) per 1k of sweat which takes around a couple hours depending on mob and dedication.
This means most F2P players go for a more social approach and sometimes do jobs for richer players instead. I played the game for a while and did enjoy it but the overall staff of the game has become worse and the richest of the rich have started to leave.
But overall, its probably the best MMO i ever played.

OK, you've really put me off buying this. I really think it's a grubby tactic to make gamers pay like that.

I wanted to be one of the cool kids.

Also did I mention you can become somewhat wealthy from it? (unlikely)
