If eating animals is cruel, then think about this :
1. Animals eat other animals
2. Plants are organisms too
3. Meat is too good to resist, it dosen't matter if it's "cruel"
While I'm not a vegetarian, I love to be contrarian.
Here are some counterpoints:
1. Yes, and animals also rape and viciously attack other animals. Humans, however do not ( for the most part ).
2. Plants are completely different from animals. If you've ever taken 5th grade science, you'd learn that they have their own unique cells. Second, name an organism with a brain that you can cut a limb off of and grow a new one.
3. Some could argue the same points about rape, drug abuse, alchohal, and cigarettes.

I think their point is more that we have a whole industry devoted to raising animals just to kill them. And that many times, the conditions the animals live in are... Less than admirable.
While I love meat of most sorts, I would prefer to buy meat from a producer that treats their animals right.
I love how you all go on about how difficult it must be to not eat meat and I must say, it's rather humorous reading what you have posted. It's not hard, actually. If you look around there's a massive range of foods that are vegetarian.
It's not that it's hard; it's that it's pointless.

"You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day" GRR! I'll get back to this tomorrow then.
From a moral standpoint I can see why some people could consider being a vegetarian even if it does go against our nature. I still don't agree with it, and vegans, I don't understand them at all. If it was just a case of "I don't like how the chickens are kept when collecting their eggs and the same goes for dairy cows" then you'd see vegans buying free range organic chicken eggs and or raising their own chickens and doing much of the same for cows or goats where possible; then I would at least understand where they're coming from. But it's not, and for that reason I don't understand them. They might all be certifiably insane.
I'm not a vegetarian by ideology, but I may as well be by practice. I still eat meat when I feel things need to balance out, but my body otherwise doesn't tolerate it well anymore.
I personally like meat, and don't really see how eating animal products is that unhealthy/cruel.
Otherwise I don't really like meat. In the exception of chicken noodle soup.
Vitamin Supplements and/or a few other things.

The poll is only part of the equation.
