Why the hell is England being nuked by Russia because America's president is dropped in lava anyway? I know it's hypothetical, but it makes no sense whatsoever.
To me, this really sounds like a sadistic question of whether to wipe out England or to kill a best friend. I wouldn't want to do neither of the two and to be quite frank, I don't want to think about it. Both choices would lead to extreme consequences and sadness, I'm not going to pick one because it's slightly better (and no, that doesn't mean I'm leaving both).
I think it's more like the OP asked the question "would you save your friend or the president?" and realized that answer is pretty obvious, so he had to up the stakes a bit.
It's not your moral obligation to pick who lives or dies.

NOT FOR ANY OTHER REASON.
THEN THAT I DON'T HAVE FRIENDS.
It really doesn't need to make sense.
Save Friend = have friend.
I'd rather have a friend than fame and glory for a month.

Toehoe is the game where little hoes shoot toes. Get it? Haha yeah....
Can you just replace London?
Wow. Should I save 1 person, or millions of people?

And also the 62,262,000 people living there. Many of whom are women, children, and newborn babies.
But... *insert friend's name here* can't be replaced!!! It's such a hard decision....
Not.
